12.30.13 Happy New Year from IRG! Dr. Peter Perez, IRG's Medical Director, joined TANDEMEER to support our relations with local hospitals to set up a line of donated medical supplies for our mission in the Caribbean.

The cruise from Morehead City to Fort Lauderdale was conducted in strong winds with reefed sails, sometimes no more than a handkerchief-size of the roller-furled jib showing, very lumpy seas and hard work at the wheel 24 hours a day because we don't have an autopilot. Overall, very hard cold work in the cockpit, but the relief on reaching warm weather was palpable!

We have a lot of repairs to make, including almost all the potable water, bilge and sump pumps, the invertor blew up (!), our starboard main jib sheet winch shattered a gear (pretty important), all our supply of engine belts were shredded or stretched, bulbs blew out and of course we have a lot of other general repairs to make - none of which is unusual when recommissioning a boat that's been on the hard for a while.

Please help contribute to our repair efforts to reach Haiti http://buff.ly/1apI9VL

Sailing a new donated 56' ketch TANDEMEER on an ongoing mission to Haiti in support of the worsening cholera epidemic with supplies and medical care departing from Chesapeake Bay. First Mate Ryan Chalifour of sister organization Green Seas Humanitarian Expeditions, who is taking over IRG's Thunderbird 4, has selflessly helped re-commission TANDEMEER for action in humanitarian aid missions.
