The Laguna Playhouse Mission Statement

To enrich lives through the magic of live theatre, to provide educational opportunities for children and adults, and to create experiences that stimulate cultural and social interaction and inspire our community.

That feeling you experience — when you collapse into peals of laughter, when you can’t hold back tears, when you can’t stop talking about it with your friends, when you keep hearing the tunes in your head. There’s nothing like it in the world.

And that’s why you keep coming back again and again.

The magic of theatre offers the thrill of live performance, the discovery of a new story or an old one re-invented, the surprise of the unexpected or the ring of the familiar, the exploration of life’s mysteries or the celebration of our common humanity.

How fortunate for you to have a place where you can retreat for such experiences. How lucky we all are to have The Laguna Playhouse.

It’s your theatre.

Our vision for the future

We will maintain The Laguna Playhouse as a long-standing cultural and educational force on the regional and national theatre landscape.  We will reflect and serve our community.  We will actively engage artists and audiences through enlightened programming of the highest quality.  We will develop future theatre artists and audiences through education programs for adults and youth.  We will fortify the organization and operate it in a fiscally responsible manner.  We will revitalize the Moulton Theatre and preserve it for future generations.

Core Values

Our Core Values support our Mission and Vision and guide our programmatic, financial, and operational choices.  Our values are at the center of all our decisions.  The Laguna Playhouse is committed to:

Heritage: Founded in 1920, The Laguna Playhouse’s history and longevity validate a unique heritage in our region, making it a cultural treasure for all of California. We accept our responsibility to be good stewards of the cultural resources and physical plant entrusted to us and to wisely build on our contributions to the community as we look to the future.

Artistic Excellence: We produce and present professional theatre of the highest quality, providing a full range of theatrical styles, entertainment, educational programs, and other initiatives that serve our community and reach a broad constituency.

Operational Excellence and Fiscal Responsibility: We are committed to the highest standards in our governance, management, and operational practices. We maintain a sustainable and fiscally sound business model to ensure fiscal health, sustainability, and strong governance.  We will maintain the human, financial, and other resources necessary to support long-term stability and artistic excellence, so that the Playhouse remains a viable and valued community asset.  We will engender community confidence and trust worthy of individual, business, and public investment.

Education:  We provide education and community outreach programs for adults and youth that will inform, educate, inspire and create a legacy for the future generations,.

Community, Collaboration & Inclusion: Honoring, reflecting and collaborating with the community we serve is central to our purpose.  We believe that our best results will be achieved when we partner with like-minded public benefit entities, including individuals, arts organizations, educational institutions, governmental agencies, and social and service groups to achieve a purpose that benefits our community.
