Movember is once more set to kick off. The month formerly known as November will see an increasingly large group of Shenzhen and China’s men sport moustaches to raise funds for prostate cancer research and other men’s health issues. Data released by Shenzhen Customs showed the city’s imports and exports reached a record high of US$ 41 billion last month. And with Christmas fast approaching experts will see an increase in demand as the city’s foreign trade is rebounding from last September. Even when last month’s trade exports dropped by 1.1 percent year on year with a decrease of 2.8 percent less than August.

More than 50,000 trees will be relocated to give way to the construction of new Metro lines thus making it one of the largest tree transportation projects in history. Construction of Metro line 7 is well on its way and some of the trees found along Xiangmei Road and Binhai Boulevard will be relocated to nearby areas of greenery. While the rest of the tree relocation project will last until spring.

Yantian district is planning to add a thousand more bikes to its public bicycle rental system along with the 32 more self service rental stations to meet increasing demand. The first government funded rental system already has 145 self service rental stations which provide around 5,000 rental bikes. Residents can rent a bicycle using either a rental card or a shenzhentong transit card.

Suppliers in China are optimistic on the July to December 2012 export revenue in view of the economic uncertainties in the traditional export destinations and rising production costs. The former is pushing an increasing number of makers to pursue growth opportunities in emerging markets. According to a survey conducted by Global Sources, export earnings in the second half of 2012 will be better compared with the same period in the previous year in which fifteen percent of makers more conservative as they expect level overseas sales.

Residents can now report common traffic violations to local police by sending in captured videos and pictures to the traffic department official microblogs sina.com and qq.com.  Residents can then upload the evidence along with information such as license plate, violation details and the time and location of the incident. Informers should also provide personal information such as ID and phone numbers by sending a private message through the microblog.

The Shenzhen Municipal Development and Reform Commission along with Shenzhen officials are considering charging vehicle emission fees. Although the policy is still under discussion there is no definite time on when the policy will be implemented. A spokesperson for the commission price management department said that the environmental authority has already asked for a draft policy that outlines fees according to vehicle type and its emission but yet to start any research.

Sixty three Chinese language teachers from overseas Chinese language schools have arrived in Shenzhen for a twenty-day program to learn about Chinese culture and attend forums and seminars on education in foreign countries. Organized by the Overseas Chinese Affairs Office of the State Council, these teachers will undergo courses on Chinese culture, calligraphy, painting, Chinese language teaching skills, dancing and Tai Chi.
