ENCORE HOTEL AND CASINO IN LAS VEGAS NV REVIEW... ONE STAR AT BEST.

In order to get a back ground of my experience in Las Vegas you need to know that I am a frequent visitor to the city and have stayed at hotels on numerous occasions. Trump Tower, Venetian, Pallazo, Bellagio, MGM Grand, Golden Nugget and many more.
My wife and I recently wanted to experience the WYNN or ENCORE because we had heard how great the service and accommodations are. While the room was great, the service was less than expected. By a lot.
While on a 4 day mini vacation, we had planned on dinner at Gordon Ramsay's, two shows and some R & R. On our second day we had the unfortunate experience of picking the wrong elevator along with 8 others. As fate would have it, it got stuck on the 32nd floor. By the way, in my entire 72 years, I have never been stuck on an elevator. At first, no one thought much about it. But after 5 minutes or so of realizing that this elevator was not going to move, we needed to get help and notify the hotel of our dilemma. We were able make contact with whomever answered the elevator phone and explained our problem. First, they had no knowledge of us being stuck. Now, I am not a rocket scientist but I do know that alarms are installed to alert hotel staffs of such dilemmas. Not so apparently at the Encore. He had no knowledge of our problem and put us on hold. Hold, hold hold. No communication and after 15 more minutes he came back on the elevator phone. He said that he could do nothing but call the elevator company. We had asked how much time before someone could help and his reply was an hour.
Now, an hour may not seem like a lot to many, but when two of the 10 passengers are having panic attacks due to the condition of increasing heat within the box along with the inability of hotel staff to know about the situation and after they did, not knowing what to do about it made the anxiety worse. In the case of my wife, who suffers from Claustrophobia, the time and also the not know how much more time created a very serious condition.
The definition of Claustrophobia is as follows:
What is Claustrophobia?
The description of claustrophobia that is generally offered is an intense fear of being trapped or confined in small spaces. The fear is often focused on not being able to escape or not having enough oxygen. A person dealing with claustrophobia often experiences great anxiety and difficulty breathing in small enclosed spaces and may experience feelings of panic or even have a full panic attack. Unfortunately as with many phobias, there is no easy description of claustrophobia.

Individuals with claustrophobia will often enter any enclosed area (such as a movie theatre) and immediately scan their surroundings for the nearest exit. They do their best to avoid small confined spaces such as elevators, basements or cellars, airplanes or even rooms with closed doors. Crowded spaces can also trigger a claustrophobic reaction as exits may be blocked and quick escape may be difficult.

Living and dealing with claustrophobia can be difficult and limiting as the individual often has to avoid certain situations and places. Working on the 10th floor of a tall building means taking 10 flights of stairs each morning to avoid the elevator, air travel may be impossible and big parties might be avoided.

In our case, my wife was not able to function correctly for the duration of our stay. Our Gordon Ramsey dinner needed to be cancelled. The trip to the play, which by the way was graciously driven to by the hotel Limo, was not able to be attended due to the darkness of the interior of the theatre. We lost our tickets for that event. In short, she spent the duration of the time in the room and was not able to function correctly. The trip home via Southwest was another matter. Her fear of confined places was expanded with the events in the elevator.

HOSPITALITY MENTALITY!!!!

The staff of the ENCORE was lacking the training on how to handle this sort of situation. They met us at the door when the door was finally opened on hour later and merely asked if all was ok. There was nothing else.

We spoke to management upon checking out, via phone by the way, they didn't even come to face us, we had asked for a way to compensate for the loss of our weekend by an additional two nights in the future, there response was merely, well, you bought your room through a 3rd party so no, we can only waive the resort fee. However, we will give you a free upgrade the next time here. My next question was, can we stay one more night at our rate. No, we will give you a 50% discount. what is the room rate on Monday night. $600.00. AMAZING.
We know customer service.
My Wife is Customer Service Executive at Kohls and I served as a commercial banker for 30 years and now am a Real Estate Professional. The Encore lacks the basics in these area. An experience we will never forget. And it wasn't good.

Goals are important. In life itself for that matter. Do you have a goal for your life? What is it? Think about it.
