Woohoo, I just released a really small open source library, and got to post about it on Square's engineering blog.

Even I didn't know the full extent of the open source work at Square.

This is too cool not to share.  Square is releasing a bunch of open source Java projects, mostly with an Android focus.

A well-articulated rant on most everything I hate about Maven.

We use Tycho at Semmle, and it works fine. It just means you have to use Maven.

Indeed, this article is well worth the read!

If there is one thing I'll miss from being at Google, it's getting to preview (and play with) breakthrough tech like Spanner.

Without getting into specifics, my teammates got to build some cool stuff on top of it. It was a pretty darned magical thing to use, especially compared to alternatives.

I don't re-post too many things in this vein, but I found this pretty thought-provoking.

Thought provoking...  It seems that the best practice is to pause and review focus every rung or so in success to keep it sustained.  I have seen "analysis paralysis" when options expand kill perfectly well-run businesses, so I can, at least anecdotally,  confirm this article has a gem of wisdom.

I think this is my favorite article I've ever read about Square.  What a great combination of super-cool-yet-accessible technology innovation, putting user experience front and center, and conveying the essential values of Square.

Greetings fellow Atlanta Software Engineers!

Wanted to let you know about a fun open house event we're doing at Square Atlanta, Thursday July 25th.  Think beer, meeting cool people, and a couple of super short tech talks.

Details here: https://guestlistapp.com/events/170175

Although it's themed with a GT Alum angle, we'd love to have any local software engineers come!

Looks like Chromebooks decided to move from cheap, underpowered hardware in a totally different direction.  The nerd in me loves this!  Although as a developer it's kind of crazy that the price point is near a good solid development laptop.  Apple really threw a monkey wrench into everything with $500 iPhones and $1000 iPads that sell-- I can't figure out what a reasonable price for anything is anymore!

Josh Egnoski was terrific. Absolutely awesome rates and fees, and Josh is super-smart and very good at explaining things, answering questions, giving advice, etc. He really knows what he's doing. I'm an extremely judicious loan shopper, having closed more than 5 in my life, and this was one of my best experiences ever.
