Attended the training programme 'Internal Audit and Quality Management System' at Govt Medical College at Sector 32, Chandigarh. A program so very much needed for standardisation of labs and NABL accreditation and to learn from in India! Today was exam day and I bagged the highest credit! Even got a prize! Feeling good! My thanks to friends who clicked these!

Labs should become transparent in their quality work ! Here is our latest external quality control for haematology ( blood) tests and microscopy on a peripheral blood smear ( diagnosed by only a pathologist) . Unknown sample and smear received from All India Institute of Medical Sciences ( the best medical institute in India) and reported back to them and they evaluate and give us this feedback! Amulya Labs has got it right again , the smear was of Chronic myeloid leukaemia ( CML, a type of blood cancer) and our results in other blood tests also are the closest to a Z score of 0! Does your lab do this?Ask for it when you submit your precious blood sample, ask your clinician whether the lab he is submitting your samples to does this! Don't fall for the cheap rates in which NO test but a sink test can be done! Ask for this as evidence of a good lab! Check if the lab the hospital claims to have in its premises really exists with eqpt ? You may not find one but just some staff who outsource to some hardly qualified lab technician run lab!

Health packages with CBC and Vit B12 together make no sense. Get a a CBC done first and if your hemoglobin is low, get a Peripheral blood film done by a pathologist which could differentiate and provide the direction to the next test for confirmation of anemia. If you have a normal level of hemoglobin in CBC, you need not get a Vit B12 or Ferritin or serum iron done which appears to be rampant thoughtless practice!

Worldwide, #ProstateCancer is the second most common cause of cancer and the sixth leading cause of cancer death among men. Cancer of the prostate has become a major health problem in industrialized world and the same is being reflected in India as its economy grows possibly due to changed lifestyles or increased migration of the rural section to the urban.
