Why People Prefer to Manage Their Alarm Systems from Their Smartphone.

It's yet another reason to pick up your smartphone . . . as though you needed one. We pretty much have our entire lives on these things. Now that smartphones have become like mini personal computers, we navigate our social media, calendars, and emails from our phone. Not to mention the countless other reasons we keep our smartphones nearby (news apps, GPS, YouTube surfing, Netflix binging, music apps . . . need we say more?).

With so much of our lives already on our smartphone, it is no surprise that Mobile Access has become our customer's favorite way to manage their security systems.

Read our blog to learn the top 3 reasons our customers keep telling us they love having smartphone access to their alarm systems:

Criminals Caught on Camera

It's not a good time to be a burglar. It's simply getting harder and harder to get by with anything. Now that surveillance cameras are more affordable, they are common additions to security systems, making it easier than ever to identify and capture criminals. But there's another big reason burglars should make a career change. Victims across the country are fighting back by posting the videos of their break-ins online, exposing criminals and their illegal activities.

Why We Sweat the Small Stuff

Recently this fall we called one of our customers to let her know about a simple power failure signal. Puzzled, she looked around her house for the cause of the power failure and decided to inspect her circuit breaker box. To her surprise, the circuit breaker itself had caught on fire! With quick thinking she was able to extinguish the fire before the flames could spread through her home.

She called us afterwards and thanked us. She explained that had it not been for our phone call about her A/C failure, the fire would have quickly spread. That simple call, she said, saved her home.

To read more about why trouble signals are important too, click on this link to our blog article here:

Top 10 Ways to Avoid False Alarms

Accidents happen. Life does go on. So why should you be concerned about false alarms? Because false alarms affect you, your neighborhood, and your community. For example, the alarm system that cries "wolf" one too many times may find that neighbors and police won't respond when there is an actual emergency. Also, the police precinct that thinks its police force is using too much of its time responding to false alarms will institute fines. Or worse, refuse to respond.

The good news is that the majority of false alarms are caused by simple human error, which means that we all have the ability to make a difference in this area.

Where is Your Panic Button?

When you first set up your alarm system, you probably found the perfect hiding place for your panic button. Do you remember where that is? If an emergency arose right now, would you be able to find it? It's not uncommon for the panic button to be the forgotten part of your alarm system. After all, keeping it hidden is one of the basics to good panic button placement, which often means: out of sight, out of mind. It's important to not only know where your panic button is, but also to consider the best strategy about where to place it.
