About
Des Moines Renaissance Faire (this is not the new Sleepy Hollow event that started in 2016).'s posts

The Des Moines Renaissance Faire is owned and produced by Festivals International of Clear Lake, Iowa. It was established in 2004, and held three events at Water Works Park and the Iowa State Fairgrounds before moving to Sleepy Hollow Sports Park in 2006. After the 10-year lease agreement with Sleepy Hollow ended in 2015, Sleepy Hollow began a new Renaissance festival at that location in 2016.

Festivals International has signed a non-compete agreement and will not host its own Des Moines based festival for three years. Visit www.sleepyhollowrenfaire.com for information about Sleepy Hollow's new Renaissance festival, and check back with us for more news in 2019.

This Des Moines Renaissance Faire website will contain information on the history of the thirteen Des Moines Renaissance Faires (including the ten held at Sleepy Hollow). We thank all of you who came out and joined us whichever location you attended.

The 2015 Des Moines Renaissance Faire begins this Saturday at 10 a.m. The website has had continual updates this week, and now merchants, performers and food should be fairly complete. We hope to see you there!

The 2015 Des Moines Renaissance Faire will be held weekends (plus Labor Day Monday) from September 5-20. www.dmrenfaire.com

I was just informed that PassFour Productions will not be able to join us this weekend. It is probably too late for us to update the show guide, so please be aware of this if you are attending specifically to see their show.

Last chance to visit this year! Pirate Weekend (Sept 13-14, 2014). www.dmrenfaire.com for the details on the entertainment lineup for this weekend, including Knotty Bits Sideshow (appearing with us for the first time). It has been a great year so far - help us close out 2014 in piratey style!

The Des Moines Renaissance Faire continues it's run weekends through September 14th.

Sept 6-7 - "Highlanders and Lucky Lasses"

Some of the different acts joining us this weekend include:

* 3 Pints Gone - the musical group people drive hours to see is back again
* Cecil's Harp - music and dance
* Clan Gunn - Scottish history, weaponry and flashy sword fighting (first time with us)
* Lala - the Celtic fiddler (roaming the lanes during the day)
* The Marty Show - we hear he is good at not dropping things (in the lanes)
* McCrakken Brothers - the Mad Scots are back with their zany golf challenge

And, by popular demand:

* CRAZY BOY COY - The juggler/fire breather/professional idiot returns to us with sideshow skills and flames.

Various merchants are also rotating out for the weekend. We will be joined by A Celtic Tradition (a Des Moines area Celtic shop), a new (larger) gypsy wagon for the Traveling Crafters, Outlandish Gypsy (in the original cart), SLS Marks, and others.

Midwestern Kilts will also be back for those that decide they want to dress up during the day.

Food is also evolving... During opening weekend, new items were tried out, such as banana splits (we are told they are historically accurate), SALAD in a bread bowl (really?), roasted nuts (almonds, pecans and cashews), snow cones, pizza bread, and various other items that are either new, or returning, or being offered at different locations.

We also sold more tickets Labor Day Weekend than we did the two previous Labor Day Weekends, so things are really looking up for the festival lately.

Come join us!

Day 2 of 7 complete! No rain today, and things were much drier (pay no attention to the rain outside right now - it waited for us to be done for the day before starting). Even with seven days, the unpredictable weather means you should always get out the first day you can when weather looks good. We'd hate to see you miss a year because of some storm clouds.

We will be out there ready to go at 10 a.m. on Labor Day Monday (let's just keep those tornadoes away from all of us).

Our website set a new record for number of visits in a day: 1655 (1484 unique, also a record). In this age of a folks living on Facebook, this amazes me. www.dmrenfaire.com

SIX MORE DAYS TO GO! We made it through opening day of 2014, and will do it again Sunday and Monday to finish off "Knights and Royals" weekend. Casey's still has $2 OFF coupons, so come on out and join us!

Opening day has finally arrived! We will be starting our Saturday at the crack of dawn, bringing in sand and gravel to make the pathways ready for visitors. Merchants have been setting up the past few days, and performers have been around checking out their stages. It's going to be a great year!
