One of the weirdest and best things happened when I was a bridesmaid at my best friend's wedding. I met her photographer who was also a book fan. We meet people all the time, talk for a few minutes, and how many times does it actually amount to something where you keep up with each other especially when you live states away from one another? Well, for whatever reason, +Magan Blasig and I stayed in touch, decided to launch a blog, and today I can call her one of the best friends I've ever had. Not only that, because of her we have thrown ourselves into a project that had made us more thoughtful, brought amazing people and experienced into our lives, and makes us appreciate reading books literature authors and the publishing world so much more than we thought. Thanks for a great 3 years, everyone! (Oh, we are giving away some swanky books too!)
Hi, you guys!Today we're super excited to celebrate our THIRD ANNIVERSARY! On November 1st, Rather Be Reading turned three! (Flashback to our first post/book report -- a review of Sarah Ockler's Twenty Boy Summer.) Celebrate with us by reading a few then/now comparisons and entering two…

Today's the anniversary of Walt Disney World's opening, as well as Epcot's. TWO IN ONE. So +Jeff Heimbuch stops by for THP's #simplemoments  series to talk about #Epcot30, new friendships, and more. Hope you'll stop in and enjoy!
Greetings, pals! Truth be told that Jeff was actually one of the first to submit his Simple Moments piece but it paired so perfectly with today's date... I'm glad I procrastinated, ahem, planned it this way. I can't believe Epcot 30 happened TWO years ago already... and I'm still jealous I couldn't…

Even a year later, I still love pushing Jim Henson: The Biography. Not only is it perfect for fans who want to get more of a handle on the man Jim was, but it's perfect for pop culture, art, and even Disney fans. (The similarities between Jim and Walt are pretty interesting.) Because Wednesday would have been Jim's 78th birthday, I've teamed up with biographer Brian Jay Jones to talk about his writing process, Jim's work ethic, rumors he wanted to debunk and more. PLUS WE ARE GIVING STUFF AWAY. An ebook & Brian is signing an audiobook copy of the biography. Come check it out!
Happy Monday! This Wednesday, Jim Henson would have turned 78. In the 3 years I've been working on THP, one of the highlights has always been learning and discovering more about Jim and the Muppets that I love. If you've been following since last year, you might remember I was SUPER excited for the…

On the brink of a new adventure, I shared some of my thoughts about why starting new things are scary and my secret weapon when it comes to finding strength to get me through. (Okay, so it's not so secret anymore. haha.)
"I might be a little scared.""That's awesome.""No, it's not," I said."Yes, it is, because you can only be brave if you're scared."- from The Impossible Knife of Memory by Laurie Halse Anderson↔Last week, I flew through The Impossible Knife of Memory (why did it take me so long to read…

A new series about the quieter, unplanned moments experienced at Disney Parks. Not everything is about running to a reservation or a FP+ time slot. We have to take the time to enjoy our surroundings, and some writers from around the community will be sharing their own stories too. Happy reading! :)
Hiya!Today I'm so excited to introduce a brand new series that will be popping up pretty frequently this month:What's this all about? Well, the more and more I visit the parks the more I realize my most treasured moments aren't necessarily the ones that I planned months and months in…

Breathe, Annie, Breathe by Miranda Kenneally is one of my favorite books from this year. Annie is a girl working through grief of her boyfriend dying and decides to run a marathon in his honor -- something she has never thought of doing before. Along the way, she deals with so many "what ifs" new friends, old friends, and starting college life. It's a beautiful story and really highlights the strength that we all have to find in ourselves when things get tough. I hope you'll check it out.

Celebrating Muppet Monday and my love of TV with today's dreamy post: what shows I want to see the Muppets guest star on. Can we make any of these happen? Feel free to share your own! I'd love to hear your thoughts. Fingers crossed we get some TV appearances soon...
Fall is such a great season because of pretty leaves, the return of scarves and beloved sweaters, and pumpkins everywhere! But one of the best parts of all is the return of your favorite TV shows after a summer of repeats. With us getting back into more of a TV watching routine and less of a…

Such a fun #MuppetMonday  today where I was able to connect a recent NYC event starring Lesley Ann Warren and her episode from The Muppet Show. If you are a fan of Cinderella, this is definitely a post for you to check out. :)
If only I had done my research days ago.It wasn't until Melissa from Mouse on the Mind texted me yesterday afternoon to inform me that Lesley Ann Warren had been a guest star on The Muppet Show back in Season 3. Why does this matter? Well, first, I'm obviously not watching these episodes fast…

I'm all about High School Musical on the blog this month. I am rewatching the movies back to back, sharing my thoughts and observations with you, and hoping you'll take a chance. Can you believe this is the most popular Disney Channel Movie EVER? It launched the careers of a few celebrities, had the support of a real legend (in my eyes), and brought the movie musical to a whole new generation of kids. Hope you enjoy the piece!
For all the time I spend talking about my affection for High School Musical, I have never officially written about it on the blog.Well, folks, the time has come.To commemorate the start of a brand new school year, I am assigning myself the task of rewatching all 3 movies in the High School…

Keith from The Disney Project shares a precious and unexpected moment from a trip to Walt Disney World. He even managed to snap a photo as a reminder. I think so many of us see strangers on vacation and we can't help but wonder if we will ever feel what they are feeling and experience what they are feeling. I'm so appreciative of Keith for getting personal in today's #simplemoment  post.
Happy Tuesday! A great pleasure to have my friend, Keith, of The Disney Project back on This Happy Place Blog with this very sweet simple moment. Hope you love it too!My personal history with Disney goes all the way back to my earliest days. My mom, a well-established Disney nerd decades…

Celebrating Disneyland's birthday & #DIsneylanders  by Kate Abbott -- a great book about a teenager on a family vacation with her parents, fighting for her independence but also hanging on to being a child. Authentic theme park fiction is hard to come by, and Abbott certainly got Disneyland right. It's a lot of fun, and perfect for Disney fans but those who question how valid it is to love the same "childlike" things as they grow up. :)
A great way to celebrate Disneyland's birthday is to read the wonderful Disneylanders by Kate Abbott. Jeff and I reviewed the book at Mice Chat and we both loved it. It's a book about a young girl whose life is changing right in the middle of her annual family vacation to Disneyland.

YOUR PERFECT LIFE is about two best friends who switch places during their 20-year high school reunion. Rachel is a mom, married to her high school sweetheart & Casey is a TV personality who enjoys the finer things. Both are in for a rude awakening when they wake up in each other's beds. Funny, sweet, serious, with a strong focus on friendship, what we want vs. what we have, and more. This is a great great read, and a perfect gift for the best friend in your life.
