I'm glad to finally see a community for preemie & NICU Support.

Not going through it now, but boy, have I been there.

My son is now a healthy, happy, and normal 25 year old (born 7 weeks early, poorly developed lungs). But my husband and I went through the NICU, and later our son's problems, including but not limited to: severe COLIC for almost a full year, speech development issues, learning disabilities, social interaction problems, over focusing, and severe depression.

The most difficult part, as he got older, was hearing people say things like, "Oh? He's learning disabled? I am SO sorry" ... like a learning disability was the same thing as a death sentence. I'd always explain that a diagnosis of learning disabled meant he learned differently than an average kid ... but I still got those same looks.

There is light at the end of the tunnel. While you go through these and other difficulties with your child, though, you think the next phase will be better, but there are always a new set of problems.

I'd be happy to contribute, listen, and offer any help, ideas, or experiences I can should anyone be interested.

Hang in there, everyone!

I am so happy that your son is doing so well! It must have been difficult. I am sure that you will have a lot to offer to the community. I look forward to your advice.

Joyous Art. Cowgirl Attitude.
I am a North Carolina native - dedicated artist, lucky wife, and happy mom to a wonderful son and four crazy dogs, happily living my dream in Cody, Wyoming. My art celebrates the humor, myth, and nostalgia of the Wild West through original drawings, paintings, collage, and digital art. The star of my artwork is almost always a cowgirl, although I often include a cowboy, horse, or buffalo - or perhaps a historical western figure along the way. Cody - its people, its wildlife, and its history often serves as my inspiration when I am creating a new piece of artwork. I love the West - everything about it - and I try to show its influence in my art. Cowgirls rock!
