#Geopolitics.

Best round-up I’ve read in several months: http://www.hangthebankers.com/world-war-3-why-russia-and-syria-are-being-targeted/.

(Unfortunate site name but I got to appreciate +Hang The Bankers as a solid and useful source. Hence their listing also in http://goo.gl/pccp4P.)

I like the way functional languages make you separate your stuff. #racket-lang

Hello, fuzzy newbie question ahead:

I wrote a simple move-ufo-by-keys experiment (based on the Realm book) and wanted to see if I can compile it and send it to someone who can play it without the Racket distribution installed.

I managed to make a distribution (GRacket + Distribution in DrRacket), sent it, and the person said the program complained about missing image file. (I currently don't have a backtrace but will ask for one.)

My question is: Am I missing something important? I tried messing with define-runtime-path but the bitmap function complained when I gave it a path object). I also tried googling but wasn't very successful (I'm not sure what to search for).

This is the code and the image:
https://github.com/ollie/racket-experiments/tree/master/ufo

Some other possibly useful info:
I work on OS X, the person has Win 7 64 bit but I have a Win 7 32 bit PC nearby so I installed Racket on it, downloaded the files and made the package. Funny part is when I tried to run the exe on the same machine, it worked.

Right now I am somewhat confused as I don't know what the real issue is:
* Is the image cached somewhere on my local Win PC so it finds it and not finds it on the remote Win PC? (Not likely.)
* Is the code wrong so that it doesn't know about the image file and must be marked somehow so that the compiler includes it somewhere?
* :( ?

Thank you

Was finally able to do it thanks to this https://github.com/Metaxal/towers/blob/master/towers/base.rkt - a separate module for images with define-runtime-paths and bitmaps which is then imported into the game. Compiles and runs fine.

Hehe "rb_warning("%sexists? is a deprecated name, use %sexist? instead", s, s);" :-)
As APIs evolve it’s inevitable that portions of them will be deprecated. Generally it’s fairly easy to find out what’s deprecated, …

Hm, it seems most of the dev communities here share the same flaw: An annoying person posting low quality or irrelevant content too often to bear. :/

Cool article from a 1995 web startup using Lisp http://www.paulgraham.com/avg.html
April 2001, rev. April 2003 (This article is derived from a talk given at the 2001 Franz Developer Symposium.) In the summer of 1995, my friend Robert Morris and I started a startup called Viaweb. Our plan was to write software that would let end users build online stores.

If you don’t deal with Ruby gotchas, they will lead to more headaches and hard-to-debug cases. Read Karol's post for best practices! #ruby #gotchas

Sad to see "Chunky Bacon!" references diminish over time. We need another _why genius. :-) Speaking of which, I wonder how Ryan Bates is doing.

Kinda sad, really. On the other hand there is Code School and try.whatever.com apps, but they aren't that cute and fun.
