Another quick post - because it's time for lunch and it includes BACON. These should make you hanker for stop at Callaway Garden's Country Kitchen - biscuits with Muscadine Preserves, a Patty Melt with BACON and a grilled chicken sandwich topped with a fried green tomato. And, of course, sweet tea. Yummy!

I recently had to travel to the Callaway Gardens area for a job interview. The Gardens looked like it was pretty nice so we decided to stay there. I have never been one to complain but I have to say, "Looks are deceiving." To start with, we didn't realize that the Lodge & Spa were a separate business from the original Gardens. We should have stayed at the Lodge. When we got to our room, we had a feeling that the place was "dated" but when we opened the door to the room, there was a strong Lysol smell in the room. We figured out later that it was to try to hide the strong musty smell of the room. As I said, we aren't ones to complain so we stuck it out. We were there for 3 nights. By the second day, my wife started to feel ill. She thought it was due to the climate change so again, we stuck it out. The next day, she was worse and her head was plugged up and she was coughing all the time. She wanted to leave that night but we stuck it out through the last night. We've been back home in Michigan for 4 days now but she has still been quite sick. Now I know why they have a 7 day cancellation policy. Room service came in after the first night but that was the only time they came. Luckily there were enough towels to get us through the three nights that we booked. The gardens were nice to see but I would not recommend this place to anybody! Henry & Carrie Clubb

We are very sorry to hear that you had a bad experience while visiting Callaway Gardens and the area, and that your wife has been ill. We have shared your comments with management and asked them to follow-up with you. Seven-day cancellation policies are common at resorts. We do wish you would have said something as we have other lodging options that may have been more comfortable for you and your wife.

I have loved visiting Callaway since I was a little girl. There is beautiful scenery, courteous staff, and tons to do. Can't wait to have my wedding there next Spring.

We are so excited that you will be getting married at Callaway Gardens. Weddings are so beautiful here. And, we love to hear that little girl's dreams come true here. Thank you for your post.

Nice beach but don't ride your motorcycle, because they make you park at the gate and walk. The lady at the gate told me that motorcycles are not allowed in the park.
Response from the owner - 2 weeks ago
Thank you for sharing your experience. You are correct. It was the wish of the founders that motorcycles not be permitted in the Gardens. We appreciate your post and hope that you enjoyed your visit.

I did enjoy my stay and some of the attractions throughout Callaway Gardens. However, the Fantasy In Lights show was an overrated, waste of time. The lights were spread out on each side of a 2 mile trail with various themes, traffic was backed up for at least 20 mins with cars, and the jolly trolley wasn't so jolly when someone lost their credit card along the way. I would not recommend visiting or lodging during the fall/winter season due to the seasons changing. In order to appreciate the Gardens at it's fullest potential, go during the Spring or Summer seasons to visit.

We're so sorry to hear that Fantasy In Lights wasn't a magical experience for you. Everyone has their favorite time to visit. We look forward to seeing you int he Spring or Summer ... which is coming quickly!

A few married couple friends and I stayed in both the villas and the Inn for the weekend. Booking through the web site, we chose both a standard and deluxe villa in order to get the right amount of rooms for our party. The deluxe villa was nice but is more like a standard room, and unfortunately, the standard rooms are not furnished for today's contemporary resort clientele. We abandoned the idea of a second villa and requested that several of our guests have a room at the Inn. The Inn is rustic, and quickly needs attention paid to the strong musty, old odor as you arrive in the lobby. Additionally, the customer service at the front desk needs attention as well. For our first visit, we were essentially checked in and given a map. Standing in line to check out, one agent seemed bothered to help us. Bright spots for our weekend included, biking, the Country Kitchen for a wonderful lunch, and Villa Pool. Outside of the resort, the Bon Vivant Cafe in downtown Pine Mountain was lovely and accommodated our party of 14 graciously.

Thank you for your comments. We are sorry to hear that you were disappointed by your lodging experience. We'll be sharing your comments with the lodging team so that they can use this information for improving guest experience. Just so you know, the villas are individually owned and decorated. If you would like to message info@callawaygardens.com with which villa you stayed in, we can share your thoughts with the owners so that they can consider upgrades. We do hope that you will consider visiting again in the future.

I wen there for 8 hours with my photography club, I didn't see a lot of animals, the place is huge and you can get lost easily, there weren't that many workers that you could ask questions where something was but it was beautiful and very different. I think I will go back for the Christmas lights.

We hope you were able to visit. Yes, the size of the place is tremendous - we can have lots of guests here and you can still enjoy the Gardens as if you were by yourself. Spring will be here soon - hopefully you can visit to take lots of beautiful photographs.
