View the Pioneer log cabin attraction at Callaway Gardens

In 1959 the structure was relocated from neighboring Troup County to Callaway Gardens. It serves as a reminder of the challenges our forefathers faced on a daily basis.
The Pioneer Log Cabin offers a glimpse back to a time when life was, in many ways, much simpler – but also more difficult. Days were spent doing chores necessary just to survive. Children played with toys made from common materials like corn husks, sticks and rocks. Homes were lit by oil lamps at night, and bodies were so tired that even thin mattresses were no obstacle to a good night’s sleep.

Beautiful location. Plenty of fun things to do and great food! I would highly recommend renting a golf cart from the golf course to tour the gardens in. Easy parking and accessibility and you can't beat fresh air in your face. Really fun getting around that way and seeing the beautiful flowers, waters, and many other attractions.

The park is looking very run down and half of the attractions are now closed. Sadly this last visit of mine will be the last visit. Annual membership buys you the right to pay half price (which is the normal price) on special weekends like Labor Day, Christmas, etc. because now they charge you double on those days. Beware of the NO REFUND POLICY because you won't even have the pleasure of speaking with a manager to lodge a complaint, they will simply give you the 1-800 number and tell you to call during business hours. Of course they were happy to take my $100 during non business hours.

Lots of fun if timed right. The balloon festival is fun. The butterflies are awesome. The birds of prey show is super cool. The lake is packed with fun stuff to do but the water is not the cleanest. The discovery center is fun too but not giant. The trails are extensive and there are plenty of surprises on the grounds to explore. A little expensive.

Callaway Gardens is a beautiful place. I enjoy their beach at Robin Lake. This visit I also got a chance to visit the golf course for the first time, which is also very nice and well maintained. Everyone at the various restaurants is exceptionally nice a well.

Not at all what we had expected. We thought we were going to be booked into the Callaway Lodge and Spa. We ended up being booked into the Mountain Creek Inn. It was very old, in desperate need of renovation and small. Apparently, it is owned by the same people, and is on the same property. I'm not sure how you actually get a room at the spa. When you call to make a reservation, they answer the phone Callaway Gardens Lodge and Spa. Nobody mentioned that we would be put into the Mountain Inn part of Callaway Gardens! Beware! This also happened to several other people that we talked to at the hotel.

I very much enjoyed our tome at Callaway. We stayed at the Inn, nothing to fancy and could use some cleaning around the grounds, but it was what I expected. Good hotel room. The Gardens were lovely. Just our pace. The Birds of Prey show was neat. The crown Jewel was the Day Butterfly Conservatory. We went there multiple times during our stay. It was a pure delight!

Stayed at the mountain Creek Inn, the rooms are just like hotel rooms. Well taken care of. The gardens and the awesome butterfly conservatory is what will make me come back. Educational and a beautiful place to spend time with the family. It's well worth the visit. One last thing. Callaway gardens is huge! Don't think you can walk to everything, some mode of transportation will be needed.

Facilities seem to need updating, staff is ok but somewhat standoffish. Food is good but overpriced by half. Gardens and lake are beautiful. Birds of prey show was much shorter than anticipated, and rentals and activties are a bit pricey. May come again if we can get a discount or deal.
