Mild Procedure for LSS Is Highly Successful, Cost Effective
(http://ow.ly/ENIn30nx9VL)

Lumbar spine stenosis (LSS) is a terrible issue that can deeply impact your quality of life; sometimes, even make walking a short distance unbearable. Up until recently, the solution to LSS were conservative therapies or open spine surgery. There is a new solution: minimally invasive lumbar decompression or MILD. Unlike back pain that is inflammatory in nature, LSS is neuropathic/ ischemic pain—this is why epidural steroids aren't as effective. However, MILD is done under deep sedation through a 1-cm incision where your healthcare provider can go between the spine, scrape out the ligament and widen the spinal canal to reduce nerve roots compression.

What Is Radiofrequency Ablation?

Radiofrequency ablation is a therapy that uses radio waves to create an electrical current through your body for pain relief, reduced recovery times after surgery, improvement in quality of life, increased range of motion, decreased need to take pain medications when compared to more conservative treatment options. Radiofrequency ablation appears to work by heating the problematic tissue to impair or destroy the nerves.

Efficacy of Platelet-Rich Plasma Injections
(http://ow.ly/KKJB30nx9VJ)

Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) has been used to promote cell regeneration for over 30 years and now there is new evidence to show it can work on issues like tendinosis. However, researchers are now debating its effectiveness on osteoarthritis (OA). Today, the evidence published since 2000 still point to PRP being a positive effect on treating OA and researchers agree that further investigation will be needed.

What's the Difference Between Rheumatoid Arthritis and Osteoarthritis?

Both rheumatoid arthritis (RA) and osteoarthritis (OA) share similar symptoms like joint pain and stiffness; however, there are differences between the two that can affect your treatment options. RA is an autoimmune disease that tricks your immune system to attack healthy tissue in your joints. OA is actually when your protective cartilage has gradually been worn down by wear-and-tear making your bones scrape together. RA symptoms can attack your quality of life faster and more intensely than OA, which tends to affect you more slowly. RA usually affects joints on both sides of your body, whereas OA can only affect one side.

Meet the Exosome, the Rising Star in Drug Delivery
(http://ow.ly/oz7j30nx9VG)

Exosomes, lipid vesicles shuttle proteins and genetic information between cells, have been long overlooked by most scientists; however, new research is showing that they may be a viable delivery system for vital drugs needed to improve quality of life. Early scientists assumed that exosomes are simply tiny sacks of trash ejected by cells, but as recent as 2007 scientists at the University of Gothenburg, Sweden showed that some cells use exosomes to transfer genetic material. Now, it appears that some biotech start-ups are trying to develop a way to use the exosomes to deliver drugs to especially difficult areas of the human body, such as the brain.
