Julian was inspirational. If I wasn't quite sure about something radio related, a trawl through his Blog and archives would generally unearth a clue that would lead me to an answer.
I never met Julian but feel he typified the spirit of what Amateur Radio is all about, freely sharing his knowledge and experience. That spirit will live on in those of us who have used his counsel -- both seen and unseen.
My condolences to those close to him.

Julian, I admire you and your courage. We all have regrets. There are always things that we could have done better, or avoided, or not done at all. There are always things that we could have done and didn't do.The important thing is what we can do today. We cannot erase the past or change history. We can love today. Today we can console and alleviate the suffering, we can be merciful, we can speak words of love to the Olga's in our lives, we can embrace and sympathize, we could at least try to do what we wanted to do and didn't do. From Bloomington, Indiana we send regards and best wishes.

26 June Physio
A visit from my physio today. She said there is nothing she can give me that can help me to get on my feet again. So I'm looking to being bed bound (hoisted) for the rest of my life. Rather depressed about this.

Shack in a bed
The Elekraft KX3 has become my shack in the bed. It is connected to the antenna using 10 m cable from eBay. Olga takes radio upstairs to charge batteries. I wish the charger had a tricle charge so we could leave radio connected to power continuously.

Hello Julian
My name is Guido ON7WK.
I am 68 years old and moved a year ago from my appartment in Lommel to a smaller appartment in Lier near Antwerp,in the neighborehood off my childeren.
I was no active for about 11  years and now I took up my hobby again.I only have one antenna to send for 40m,very small mobile antenna,a magnetic loop for receiving and a discone receiving and transmitting on 2m,70cm .To receive I bought a Funcube Dongle plus. And I have also a FT-817 ND .
It took me months to understand sdr and now I use it to receive all things over de band.
I tested also de DV Dongle but do not use it.
At last I put all my energy in receiving plaines en try to receive ADS-B.
So I  came to your site looking how I must install ADS-B sharp, and ADS-B-Scope.
For rtl dongle there is a lot of info but not for funcube. And my computer knowledge is very low HI.
So that is the message from an OM that is still trying to follow the younger generation.
Wish you all the best and 73,s from Guido ON7WK

Dear Olga, very sad news, and my sincere condolences.
I was in touch with Julian for very long time when in Africa and Middle-East and I will never forget that he left us the day before my birthday date.
Rest in peace my dear friend you'll always be in my heart.
Phil, F5LTB

Sorry to hear of your bad times Julian, we are going through exactly the same with my dad, although he was only diagnosed 3 months ago and has been virtually bed bound for two months (a particularly aggressive tumor and failed attempt at removal). We have found a local hospice who will help but only one night per week, rest is care buy family members. NHS is a joke, OK if you want a new pair of boobs mind you. I do pray you can stay positive in these difficult times, thank you for sharing your journey with us, it has been an inspiration.

aw, heck with ambient temperature retuning, those things are notorious for tune drift just from using rated power at high duty-cycles.  Hope you can find a better solution, HF APRS can be a special treat.  GL 73
