I am beginning once again to revitalize my love of working with photographic film and older generation MF cameras.

I cannot escape acknowledging that working with this medium, these processes and this equipment is an absolute pleasure, sort of 'soul feeding'.  It knocks spots of the sterile digital processes which simply keep you glued to a computer all day.

I am considering starting to offer professional portraits taken with film and traditional equipment and having that film processed traditionally to produce proper silver gelatin archival prints.

These however will be a 'unique quality print' print service and therefore would not be cheap.

This portrait is of a friend of mine, a fellow photographer who is well into bird photography, I captured this in a hide while he was keeping an eye on our little feathered friends in the distance.  The quality of the printed version is staggering, the tonal depth and grain structure, the uniqueness.

It was taken on a:  Bronica SQAi, with 80mm lens on Ilford FP4 film

I met up with a friend a good while back now who I hadn't seen for a good 15 years or so. We went for an afternoon out with the cameras which was both refreshing and pleasant, something I must make the effort to do more often. We spotted these birds all perched on the very lip of the Heugh Pier in Hartlepool and I couldn't resist.

To get it I had to get down flat, nudge myself right to the edge of the pier, two inched more and I'd be swimming, then I shuffled up very slowly a few inches at a time till I was about 6ft away. Any big moves and they shuffled in turn away from me. Staying as still as I could and waiting patiently I steadied the camera and shot a few frames, this being my favourite. I must make the effort to go back again.....

Hi All,

I'm a long time photographer, been shooting for abut a thousand years.  My overall preference when it comes to shooting is to use one of my Bronica's with B/W film in it.  Unfortunately since the world has turned digital I now have to do most of my work with this media, much to my dislike, but we are were we are and clients want what they want.  The world turns.

Wherever possible however I will take every opportunity to pull out my Bronica's and get back to my first love.

Hello everyone, just joined the community; thinking of moving across from that other popular social media organisation which begins with F.  Beginning to dislike the way they operate.
