Tokyo Arts and Space トーキョーアーツアンドスペース

Fourth artist included in this chapter.

Chim↑Pom is a collective (Tokyo 2005) which puts at the core of its work the most current social and political issues using art as a possible field and vector of the investigation. A privileged field aimed at creating questions without necessarily producing answers. That of the participation is, in the case of Chim ↑ Pom, a condition a posteriori. The collective – «Six members is already a society, one that can have real effects in the rest of the world [...]»- moves in two different ways: on the one hand creates devices where the public renounces a position of passive fruition becoming performer (So see you again tomorrow, too?, 2016; Street, 6th Asian Art Biennale, 2017); On the other hand, it seeks to create more awareness through projects that are questioning the stringent topicality as those whose main theme is that of nuclear or the disaster of Fukushima (Real Times, 2011; KI-AI 100; Don’t follow the wind; PIKA! just to name a few).

Third of the artists included in this chapter.

Ishu Han work wonders about the relationship between individuals and collective entities such as society and the nation by using everyday objects or his bodies as a parameter.
What relationship is established between an object or the body and a specific place? What is the concept of other? Where the differences come from? These are some of the questions that stand under a work such as the Great Ground Table (2015) where the circle of scales calibrated in a different way supports the bowls at the same height connected to each other by the classic chopsticks used to eat. In this circular system – the typical table in Asia is circular – which bypasses every hierarchy, or in which every hierarchy is subtly questioned; In which there is no beginning nor an end, it is not possible or at least it is not easy to understand who sustain who. In this dynamic, anyone can be the other.

Second of the artists included in this chapter.

Tsubasa Kato's work is aimed directly at the surrounding reality through a process of redefinition and knowledge of the self within which the Fukushima disaster (both physical and psychological) turns out to be a real turning point.
If in fact before March of 2011 Kato had already begun to build large public sculptures that triggered processes of direct participation with the aim of investigating the border between public and private, after 2011 (H.H.H.A Home, Hotels, Hideyoshi, Away) these have started to assume a tension that does not end in the construction of an artwork generating rather platforms of exchange aimed at determining empathy and solidarity [...].

Come join us at TOKAS_Tokyo Arts and Space 9-10-11 of March from 11.00 to 17.00 for the open studios.

Although partially, on this occasion I will present my project as part of my long-term research on the relationship between art and the public sphere. The topic of this chapter, that goes under the title Supercommunity, is the participation and its potential connection with the March 2011 Fukushima’s disaster.
Here I will present the works of four artists - KATO Tsubasa, HAN Ishu, Chim↑Pom Tetsuro KANO - as four potential key access to the concept.

Thanks TOKAS @bjcem @uk.youngartists @ramdom.association @lastation.le for supporting

First of the artist included in this chapter is Tetsuro Kano.

Kano's work represents, within the trajectory of the partial access to the subject, a condition of departure and closure at the same time capable of determining a sort of circular path.
Its site-specific installations design environments in which natural and artificial coexist. These are environments built without predetermination in which each type of hierarchical disposition is canceled in favor of transient and flexible dynamics. Here the participation is constantly put into play and negotiated beyond the will of the artist.

This of Tokyo, that goes under the title Supercommunity, is a partial chapter – other artists apart from the four involved here, which work investigates the topic of participation in different extent, live now abroad but will be scrutinized afterward – that will be finalized with the presentation of four works by Ishu Han, Tsubasa Kato, Chim Pom and Tetsuro Kano.
These works are mainly intended to be possible key access to such a wider topic.
