Welcome to Terri Talks Books! I'm a long time blogger at Tip of the Iceberg and have recently created companion websites here and at YouTube that focus on book and reading related topics. This is a bit of an exercise in perso...

This is like psychoanalyzing a dream. I have no idea what all this says about me.

Any sleep apnea sufferers here? Thinking of putting together a circle here on Google +. Could use some encouragement/troubleshooting support, etc.

Been on CPAP now for 2 years. Its the only way I can sleep restfully. Did the sleep study, I stopped breathing 69 times an hour.

Okay, here is a list of genres my class is interested in reading. I will pick a book for each genre and then the students will form book clubs of 4-5 students. I'm also showing what books I am considering so far. I would LOVE any suggestions you have to make on titles. I want to move beyond supermarket pulp--not that there is anything wrong with that. I need there to be enough 'oomph' to the book that students will have plenty to work with as I assign them some research on the author/novel, pull vocabulary from the books, and have them do graphic organizers comparing and contrasting characters, tracking important plot elements, etc.

Historical Fiction | The March by E.L. Doctorw
Chick Lit | Wives and Daughters by Elizabeth Gaskell (pushing it w/this one)
Sports Based Literature | Shoeless Joe by Thomas Kinsella
Science Fiction | A Canticle for Leibowitz by Walter M. Miller
Horror
Courtroom Thriller
Mysteries
Action Adventure

Help me, Book Lovers! I need this list ready to go by Monday, 10/3.

I like that. Next time the husband calls me wordy, I'll say I'm "thorough."

Struggling to articulate my discomfort with what I will describe as angry pacifism. It bothers me to read the words of people who claim that peace is the most important thing, but who come across in a hostile manner, who call others names, and who belittle those they oppose.

I think it more than belligerence, Dan. I don't know. Is it maybe an inability to see how your own words appear to others? Some of the worst offenders of this are people I know who are very idealistic and passionate. They really care about all this. In caring so strongly, can they not see the violence of their own words?

I think I tend to over think these things. Because I spend so much time online, which is often where I see this type of thing, I would love to have some sort of response to the people who say these things. I am afraid of it devolving into my behaving in exactly the same way. I so UNDERSTAND the vehemence and anger, but I cannot help thinking I am becoming the judge of things only God can judge when I let my spirit have full rein.

I am obviously feeling wordy today. Between here and Facebook, I am burning up the keyboard!

Story
Introduction
A recent graduate with my master's in Reading Education, I teach reading part-time at Fullerton College.

I used to blog a lot. Now I blog a little. I twitter a lot. I talk a lot.

If you care to know, I am an ENFP. If you don't know what that means, you probably do NOT want to know.

Married, two kids, blah, blah, blah. Nothing too interesting in that department.
