Understanding the California Fair Chance Act
Check out this article about California’s Fair Chance Act, also known as the ‘ban the box’ law. The act prohibits almost all employers in the state from asking job applicants about their criminal records until after a conditional offer of employment has been made. The law also places restrictions on when a criminal record can be used as justification for denying an applicant a position and gives that applicant a right to respond to the employer’s decision.

New law targets pay discrimination
Check out this article about recent changes to California's Fair Pay Act that just went into effect. The Fair Pay Act was originally designed to prevent employers from paying female employees less than their male counterparts. At the beginning of 2017, the act was expanded to also ensure workers of different races and ethnicities received the same pay for doing “substantially similar” work as other employees.
