Today in the heart of the NYC Broadway Theater District, the professional musicians of Local 802 (which represents musicians who play on Broadway) endorsed candidate Bill de Blasio to become the next Mayor of New York City. They praised him for being a champion of the arts and understanding that live music on Broadway and in venues like Lincoln Center must not be replaced by recordings!

This Washington Post piece describes how using canned music severely hurt this year’s production of the Nutcracker by the Washington Ballet. Writer Sarah Kaufman calls the canned music a “Villanous mood killer.” This is not the first time we’ve seen a negative review of a show citing canned music as its downfall.
