I've never heard of these people before.  Interesting though.

We're proud to announce that our SIP #TelePresence system is available for testing

If you're in Europe then this has to matter to you.

Our own silly, protectionist rules got us into this mess, let's see if we can get out of it.  Sure hope so.

Suggestions.

Can we have a suggestions category is the first one!

I'd like to make another though.

Along with others, mainly +James Body , I've been looking a lot more into sipXecs since the VUC presentation.  It's very impressive, looks extremely well put together and offers a tremendous number of facilities.  Not least the nice phone provisioning section that gives you an understandable front-end to create config files.  It's worth installing for that alone,

However as is true of most open source projects it is lacking from a commercial perspective.  But then there's the commercial spin-off eZuce.

Can we have them on a future VUC please?  It would be really interesting to hear what they offer.

Why not put suggestions in the general category of Water Cooler? I think many share my opinion that too many sub-categories ends up being annoying.

Now I'm trying to remember if someone already mentioned these folks other than last week. If at all possible, I like it when people take the initiative to contact companies or projects and ask in their own words if they'd like to come present on VUC.

So, who's going to contact eZuce?

New Zoiper Beta for Windows

There's a new Zoiper Beta for Windows out which expires on 20th December.  You use your existing Zoiper credentials for registration, meaning you get the full version if you have a Communicator registration.

The email I got from Zoiper said  "A new black interface, highly improved video support and enhanced to absolution audio quality".  Quite a statement.  Absolution audio quality?  What does that mean and how will it compare with the Bria 3.5 Beta client I'm also testing at the moment, I wondered.

The principle reason I stopped using the last version of Zoiper  was due to a lack of codecs - wideband support was very limited and there was no G722, my favourite default codec.  So I was keen to see what this new, improved, much-prettier-as-everything-is-in-black version had to offer.

Well, the interface is black or at least a dark slate grey and it has been reorganized, particularly with respect to the preferences section, but new audio codecs?  Not a sign - still no G722.  Seriously disappointing.

However, it does support VP8 for video so matches Bria in that respect.

So, I can't make wideband phone calls the way I want but I can use VP8 as my video codec, if I can find someone or something that supports it and for some bizarre reason I'm not using Bria.  Voice is still by far the default method though.

I think I'll stick to Bria, which is quite impressive, and maybe Blink.

I'm wondering if there is anything sinister in the Zoiper beta timeout being one day before the Mayans seemingly say the world ends?

So I have!  Thanks +Derek Jacobs.  I can see the disk light flashing while Zoiper uninstalls itself as I speak.  Fixed it in the text.

Interesting tip

Works like a charm, and we even have the science to back it up:

My wife will appreciate this! Also, bananas are easier to open if you do it from the bottom and not the stem.
