Marcus Books in San Francisco's Fillmore District receives its designation as a historical landmark, but is this enough to save the iconic book store please watch the video, comment and share this post.

Marcus Books is  the longest-running Black-owned bookstore in the country, continuing to support the community.  For 53 years, book event speakers have included Maya Angelou, Oprah Winfrey, Toni Morrison, Terry McMillan, Amiri Baraka, Iyanla Vanzant, Rosa Parks, Danny Glover, Harry Belafonte, Malcolm X,  and Barbara Lee among others. Marcus Books supported emerging Civil Rights authors during the 60's and launched many events for women authors during the 70's. They strongly supported the improvement of curriculum at universities, assisting SFSU students in 1968 to produce the first African-American, Asian-American, Latin-American and Native-American programs in the U.S. Previously it was Bop City, a well known Jazz center that hosted some of the greatest musicians : Duke Ellington, Ella Fitzgerald, Ben Webster, Billy Eckstine, Miles Davis, Dizzy Gillespie, Dinah Washington and John Coltrane among many. So Please support Marcus Books!! Thanks
