If a hand hygiene pump is on the blink in the ground floor of the RMH City Campus, you can report it in seconds. Just use your phone to scan the QR code or touch the NFC label – you don’t need any special RMH app. We’ve called the mini website that runs this “rmhfix.me”.

We ask all our visitors and staff to clean their hands – it’s one of the best ways to prevent the spread of infection. The RMH has hand hygiene pumps all around the organisation. Put your hands under the pump and it will squirt hand sanitiser gel onto them. Rub your hands together and roll over your fingers, thumbs and wrists. It only takes 15 seconds.

So, how did the idea for rmhfix.me come about? One of our Public Affairs staff wasn’t sure who to report a pump problem to and thought that being about to notify our maintenance team through smartphones might be a solution.

In areas such as wards, if a hand hygiene pump has a problem, let the nursing team know.

We are trialling this with pumps in the front foyer, around the main lifts and coming up from the car park.

What do you think of this idea? Let us know in the comments.
