It's official, G+ is shutting down.

I remember the day when G+ was first announced with beta invites back in 2011. I was lucky enough to get an invite from a friend, which allowed me to connect and meet great folks around the world who are just as passionate about tech and design as I am.

From +Vic Gundotra not able to sleep at night due to exciting G+ and Hangouts updates, to late night discussions about technology with you fine folks. It has been a great 7 years! Goodbye, G+ ❤

Mark Stronge: SMH it's not material, everything doesn't have to be material, it looks fine to me

Yusuf Islam: +Mark Stronge but it doesn't need to look like a POS. Plus when you have an ecosystem you should be following design language practice to keep it nice and uniform.

Michael G: Not surprised at all, as expected Google+ will eventually come to an end although they have more monthly active users than Twitter. Hate all you want but it's not hard to see Facebook wins considering they have more workforce and talented software engineers from all over the world. Hate all you want but Facebook is the undisputed king of social network. Farewell Google+, had a great time using it especially on my Android phone. Sadly, Facebook for Android is still garbage after a decade. In contrast, Facebook for iPhone is so much more superior.

Wait, a solution that depends on OEMs and carriers to push out updates didn’t work? How shocking!

Like I mentioned when Project Treble was first announced: it's just another pipe dream by Google. At least you tried, big G. I'll give you that.

Urmil Shroff: +David Slawotsky LMAO it's not even that, I messaged him twice on Hangouts (because I thought the same, that the notifications were broken) and he casually read and ignored both messages.

He always does this every time it's an Android/iOS related argument and I send a rather long message with a lot of factual statements proving him wrong. And right after those kind of messages he stops replying. Every single time. It's happened at least 10-15 times in the past year. I'm not going to bother wasting another second of my time or brainpower talking some sense to him regarding this.

Vinoth Ragunathan: +Urmil Shroff proving me wrong? Lol what!? All you do is mention: “I should wait and see how it plays out” and “I shouldn’t judge the feature because it’s new”, that obviously hasn’t worked out for you in the past few years. That’s why I usually brush off your comments, because you and the others who comment are very optimistic about these kind of things lmfao.

So much hope for half-assery is what I don’t understand and why I don’t bother commenting back — I let it play out and then point it out, like now (and the countless other times *cough* Allo *cough*).

Vinoth Ragunathan: +Luca H +Henny Roggy I noticed that Apple is slowly opening up (eg: uninstalling stock apps; allowing third-party apps to run in the background; allowing keyboards; etc). They just need to allow default apps, then we’re good to go lol. I wonder how iOS 13 will change what iOS 10, 11 and 12 introduced.

Jordan VanCampen: +Luca H if it switches back to the stick keyboard, you just tap the globe to switch it back to your preferred keyboard. It's not ideal, but not hard for "normal" people to figure out.

Vinoth Ragunathan: +Alfonso lol nope. We probably need to wait another week or two. It hasn't fully rolled out for Android users either. Google did say it'll be pushed out throughout February 🤷‍♂️

I’m surprised Apple hasn’t added Face ID to their Mac lines, yet. After using Face ID & Windows Hello, it’s clear that this is the right direction for authentication. There’s no buttons, no typing, no pressing — it just works.

Technology is at its very best when it’s invisible.

Victor Riley: +Matthew Ng If they were to ever implement it in theitr products, I'd agree. As of now, though, we're left with a bunch of gorgeous concept videos, while Office and especially Windows are still ugly as hell. Not to speak of quality issues and UX fauxpas.

How can you have a beautiful design language like Fluent Design System, and then implement something so awful like the dark mode!? How is that even possible!!!??? HOW!!!??? God!!!
