Anyone been out on the short Powderface loop lately? Better conditions then WBC?

+Rob Gemmell Looks like we might be at the end of the fun season, unless we get some more snow I guess.

Anyone ridden the fatbike loop at the Canmore Nordic Centre? Hoping to hit it up on Saturday. Any intel would be great.

Rode it a couple of days ago and my wife rode it yesterday, its still a little loose from the fresh snow but should be well packed by Saturday. From the South (ice rink) end of the stadium follow the fat bike signs up to Hey McLeod then EKG East. You can follow EKG around in a big loop, but I’d recommend checking out the new Odyssey trail (also signed for fat bikes) by taking the left turn soon after you enter the Meadow. After climbing high above the meadow you can descend the blue version of Terminator and follow the Odyssey extension to close to the top of Blue Coal Chutes. The trails are like spaghetti, but following the fat bike tracks will help. From there you could come back on EKG or for more fun to go down Blue Coal Chutes and come back on Long Road to Ruin and then EKG, Orchid, and Canmore Trail back to the parking lot – all tracked as designated for fat biking, no day use passes required. It’s 18km for us from town so probably 14km from the Nordic Centre. If you want a smaller loop will less vertical the EKG loop is great too with plenty going on to make it interesting. Have fun!

Finally checked out the High Rockies Trail today and it was pretty great. We had fresh tracks on about 5cm of fresh snow too. Parked at the Driftwood area and rode about an d hour south then turned around.

Pretty fun trail, I must say. Will definitely be going back!

Has anyone been up on the High Rockies Trail near Canmore? Any idea if it has snow?

Is there snow anywhere in the Calgary/Banff/Kananaskis area?

Rode the nordic centre loop today and it was
>soft
>loose
>deep
and pretty slow going. But with a few more people on it, it will be in great shape. Been out there a few times this winter and am surprised at the lack of traffic on the trail.

Are people riding other/better trails in the Canmore area?

No, a couple of years ago you did, but for the last two years it has been free to ride there

Went to check out the trail conditions at WBC today. Rode Bragging Rights out to the bottom of Merlin Loop. Super soft with not a lot of traffic over the weekend.

Looks like there is a big race weekend in January in Jasper? Anyone going? Serious considering going up for it.

I'm sure you'll do well, it will depend a lot on conditions. If there was going to be lots of pushing and below -30ºC, I'd be in my element.

Amazing pizza! Cannot recommend highly enough. Great people, friendly and generous.

The service here is excellent, just be aware that they do get a very busy lunch rush most days. Their sweet and soul chicken balls are the best in the city and the rest of the menu is classic Chinese/Canadian fare. And they serve crinkle fries!

Dirty. Noisy rooms - sounds like we're in the middle of a washing machine all hours of the night. Horrible restaurant options with limited hours. Can't open the windows in the room to let in fresh air. Toilets are terrible - need to flush multiple times to make anything go down. Will never stay here again and would never recommend the hotel.
