Hey Friends,

WInter fatbiking is almost over and now it's time to start thinking about summer fatbike adventures.

Like this! Anyone checked this out? #railtrail
\rIron Horse Trail at a Glance\rScenic Trail Ensures A Positive Users\' Experience\rThe Iron Horse Trail is a very attractive part of the local landscape of North-Eastern Alberta. It has existed in its relatively natural state since approximately 1920. This means that it has developed its own ecolo

What I've seen it's all high grade gravel, most of it is pretty smooth, but it can get marked up if the quads get on it when it's wet. There is a brand new bridge that crosses the Beaver River (just a few km's out of CL) that is pretty impressive. To be honest though, I've only seen it in the dark, I was doing 1-1.5 hour rides from the CL end after work in November. At that time I didn't encounter any other users at all. It was exactly what I needed to unwind at the end of the day. CL is so full of pick-up drivers in a rush that I wasn't comfortable riding the 2-3 blocks from my hotel to trailhead. That said, I'm told that it's pretty nice in the summer.

The first thing to know about winter biking – or fat biking – is that it’s harder than it looks. Keeping your tires on the trail takes some skill, but there’s the promise of a soft landing in a sno...

This is a much better summary than the previous one on the website. Boy is our troll going to be disappointed when he finds out that he has been yelling at fatbikers on legal trails.

Up early this morning, rolled out of the WBC parking lot by 930 and hit up Snowy Owl -> Ranger -> Snakes and Ladders -> Ridgeback -> Tom Snow -> Mountain Rd back to the lot. Really good conditions everywhere except Tom Snow and the road. Pushed for a couple hundres metres on Tom Snow and wiped out a couple times in the fresh coming down the road. Once on the groomed trail it was pretty fast coming back in.

Rosebud <-> Wayne along the recently decommissioned rail line between Lyalta and Hanna. 26km oneway with 36 tressles. All gravel, technically illegal, but had no issues. Beautiful scenery.

Finally rode the Canmore Nordic Centre's fatbike loop today, some stats:
11.75kms long
250m elevation gain total
1h20m ride time
Rode it clockwise
To access the loop, head towards the Wax Huts at the SW corner of the stadium and start climbing up the ski trail, look for the bike signs.
Really enjoyed the loop. So much flow, up and down.

Stayed close to home yesterday and rode the Weaselhead with all that fresh snow. I little soft in spots but totally open and super fun.

Amazing pizza! Cannot recommend highly enough. Great people, friendly and generous.

Dirty. Noisy rooms - sounds like we're in the middle of a washing machine all hours of the night. Horrible restaurant options with limited hours. Can't open the windows in the room to let in fresh air. Toilets are terrible - need to flush multiple times to make anything go down. Will never stay here again and would never recommend the hotel.

The service here is excellent, just be aware that they do get a very busy lunch rush most days. Their sweet and soul chicken balls are the best in the city and the rest of the menu is classic Chinese/Canadian fare. And they serve crinkle fries!
