This is the original Shake Shack and the best one in my opinion. I feel like the food is the best here and the outdoor seating area in the park is nice. In the winter, they have heat lamps so you can keep warm. I always get my usual Shack Stack and flavor of the day frozen custard. I'm not really a fan of their frozen crinkly fries since I rather have fresh cut fries. There's less lines if you go early at 11am-12pm or late at 2pm-3pm especially on weekdays and Sundays. I would just avoid this place during lunch hour on weekdays and Saturdays.

This was the first Shake Shack that I ate at. The vegetarian mushroom burger > meat burger. I'm an omnivore, so you could trust me. Beware of the extremely long lines during summer. It's not worth the wait there are other Shake Shacks.

Best burger I have ever eaten. Great krinkle fries. Friendly, efficient staff.

I really don't understand the fuss. Expensive, slow, mundane burgers. But the park is nice.

Glorified soup kitchen. With worse food. If all you know is McDonald's/Wendy's/Burger King, this place will be familiar and a slight notch above. But, if you know a real good burger (e.g., Umami, Minetta, Corner Bistro, PJ Clarke's, etc.), there's no reason to wait in line, especially for this place...unless your goal is to relive the Soviet era. And people, please stop rating this overpriced grease-pit for the park it's in: if you want good food and sit in Madison Square Park, go to Eataly, Dig Inn, or the multitude of great places around, and bring the food into the park. But, if you're too lazy to do that and choose to wait in line for overpriced, terribly sub-par food in a city that's known for reasonably priced amazing food, good on you. It's these kinds of high ratings for places like this that make me lose faith in the legitimacy of these crowd-sourced ratings ("hip"? "gourmet"? You kidding me?? Compared to a Cracker Barrel, maybe). Either people are paid to rate this place high, and/or people just have no taste. My guess? The food tastes amazing mainly because you're completely starved by the time you get the food. Thankfully, Zagat seems to be still ok -- Umami and Minetta are rated higher than this McD's+. I will say, the shakes are ok. But I only get them when there's no line. And I happen to be walking by. And I happen to feel like a shake. And if I feel like overpaying for marginally decent things.

I love Shack Shack but service at this location (which happens to be the original location) is pretty slow. If you can manage the long lines and the extra wait for your order to be serve after, it's worth it.

Personally, I think it's the best burger (and cheese fries!) you can have! And yes, I've been to in-n-out before, they don't stand a chance!

All this hype about Shake Shack! Long lines have turned me off. To my surprise, the lines moved fast (waited about 5 minutes). You then get your little plastic toy thing that lights up when your food is ready (just like any other restaurant). The food took about 20 minutes before it was ready. So, bring a friend to pass the time! The outdoor eating space is a nice area to sit and enjoy your meal. When you go later in the evening, there are cute lights hanging from the trees to light up the eating area. The space heaters would have made this experience perfect if all of them actually worked! We were lucky enough to sit near one that did. I asked the girl at the counter about the heaters and she said that they were broken and there was no way to relight them. HOPEFULLY, heaters will be the least of our concern in a few weeks! I ordered the classic Shack Burger (something like that) and fries. It was pretty good but it didn't blow me away. It tasted just as a burger should; not too greasy or mushy. I will definitely return to try their shakes in the summer.
