A doctor who ran weight-loss clinics in Orland Park and Tinley Park was sentenced to two years in prison Thursday for selling millions of prescription diet pills without examining or monitoring his patients. Between 2002 and 2010, patients at the clinics could receive pills containing powerful appetite suppressants upon request. The doctor didn't check their medical records, perform health examinations or provide any subsequent monitoring when selling them the drugs, according to prosecutors.

A former part-time Orland Hills police officer was sentenced to six years in prison Tuesday for a drunk driving accident that killed another driver in 2010, according to a statement released by the Will County state's attorney.

"The station has been reconfigured and added to so many times that anything we do to bring the station to current code would simply be another short-term solution," said Orland Fire Chief Ken Brucki. "What I'm asking you to consider basically gives that station sustainability for the next 15 to 20 years."

Fort Sheridan Cemetery, a historic North Shore military graveyard with headstones dating to 1890, is about to enter the 21st century. Army officials are on site this week to start the process of digitizing the cemetery's interment records. With iPhones in hand, a small team of soldiers is photographing the 2,241 headstones to put into an online database.
