Are you tired of the Fed’s coming to your aid? I’m not disparaging boots-on-the-ground fighters; I am questioning decisions that lead to today's explosive results. Or put otherwise, “with pyromaniac results like today, who needs fire “fighters?” All we’ve seen since the arrival of Feds is back-burn & more back-burn. And here’s the irony, I’ll wager that more timber and forest is lost to back-burn and fire that could have, should have, been prevented than consumed in the original flame! Not a positive indictment on Federal fire-management. Leading to this query: Top reasons the Federal Gov’t is the wrong tool for fire prevention:

1. An endless supply of funding. Federal Incident Management Teams know that they can not run out of money when actively engaged in Direct or Indirect fire-management exercises. Cost is not a consideration, when the budgeted amount nears, they ask for, and receive more funding.

2. USFS budget-build cycle is three years. So every third year, USFS agents “pad” operations to maximum to “build” their next-year’s budget demand. Don’t expect to see any restraint in THOSE years.

3. NO incentive to put out an active fire. A “going” fire consumes resources. This bloats follow-on budgets and justifies still more and more money to the fire.

Wow there is no management happening here, and if it weren't for the river they wouldn't have had a chance at stopping it on our side either. It's devastating and dumbfounding to say the least.

This is the key map: if you can put it on a laptop or desktop and blow it up you’ll see that the burn-scar from the biscuit fire is out there to the left or west. So from the top comes down the Taylor Creek fire and from the bottom comes up the Klondike fire and from the right or east is the back burner so basically what they’ve done is capitulated the middle and consider that gone. So basically the biscuit fire will now have consumed everything all the way towards I-5 which is criminal. They’ve given up on the middle.
