Just Like You - A Post for Mother's Day
Listen To Your Mother, Portland, is happening tonight at the Alberta Rose Theater. I'll be taking my mom as an early Mother's Day gift.  You may not know I auditioned for this show. You should know, I wasn't accepted and I'm not even sad,  or disappointed, ...
Not bad like, “sneak out of the house and go drinking with my friends” bad. More like, “I hate you! You can't tell me what to do! I wish I'd never been born! Fold the damn laundry yourself” bad. I was a tad disrespectful. I wasn't this way with my teachers or other adults.

The Good News This Week…May 2

So many crying out. So many begging for the violence and prejudice to stop. But it's not. Will it? Here I am, shooting off my mouth again. The suburban, white, middle-aged chick watching the Baltimore riots unfold on CNN. I'm not in the fight, yet I feel defeated.

19 Ways We've Stayed Together 19 Years
A few months ago, a young woman asked me the secret to a happy marriage. “Therapy”, I responded.  Yesterday Edd and I celebrated our 19th wedding anniversary. Marriage is hard work. Aside from that, I’m not sure there is any piece of advice I can give anoth...
If there is one thing I've learned from being with the same person over two decades - it's that a partnership is just as individual as the two who are in it. Reflecting on our union, I have come up with 19 reasons we've been able to stay together: For us, 19 years of marriage is: ...

How a Blogger Becomes A Radio Host

A Post Close To My Heart
Edd and I spent some time away from the world recently. It was good to be away, to talk about nothing but us. We've come a long way since we first met in 1992.  The most popular post on my blog explains how Edd and I met. He wasn't a believer - not just in ...

Dear Christian Who Claims To “Love the Sinner, Hate the Sin”,
Before I begin, I admit I’m making 2 assumptions: 1. You believe homosexuality is a sin. 2. When you claim, “Love the sinner, hate the sin”, you are actually speaking about those acting on Same Sex Attraction, rather than your overweight, alcoholic pastor (...

Thorr turned 2 this week. I fought against getting a pet for a long, long time. I have to say, this little spaz grew on me. Now I can't imagine our life without him. (Except when he barks like mad. Then I can imagine it.) Sharing Stories: Shoes that Grow: An idea so genius, you wonder why nobody ...

Tips from "Guybrarian", Paul Warner, for National Library Week
April 12-18, 2015 is National Library Week. If you've known me longer than five minutes, you've probably guessed: I love libraries. Particularly School Libraries. And even more important to me - School Librarians Last week I interviewed my friend and school...
Last week I interviewed my friend and school "guybrarian", Paul Warner, on Rose City Forum. Paul shared the importance of Teacher Librarians and how our students suffer when library resources are not available. I asked Paul to share resources and ideas with my blog readers.

Hold on, hold on. Don't touch your screen yet. Let me get the feather duster… Ok, there. Whew. Not blogging during Lent certainly has left a lot of dust bunnies around here. Now. What were we talking about? Oh. Lent. Yes. I gave up blogging for Lent because...
