Bridget Shanahan is always looking for a new adventure and loves being outdoors. You’ll probably find her out and about hiking, skiing, camping or just exploring different towns throughout the area. So, naturally she is a perfect fit for the Champlain Valley. “I love being in the Northeast, nestled between the Adirondacks and the Green Mountains because I can enjoy everything Lake Champlain has to offer,” Bridget says.
Bridget grew up in Mokena, Illinois, a southern suburb of Chicago. She graduated from Eastern Illinois University with a Bachelor’s degree in Speech Communication. She went on to earn a Master’s degree in Public Affairs Reporting at the University of Illinois at Springfield.
She began her career at KIFI-TV in Idaho Falls, Idaho, as a reporter and was quickly promoted to weekend anchor.
After that, she moved on to the Post-Register. While helping to launch the Eastern Idaho newspaper’s multi-media platform, Bridget shot, wrote and edited stories for the paper’s website and also wrote print stories.
After her brief stint with print, she went on to WICD-TV in Champaign, Illinois, where she anchored the morning and midday newscasts.
Bridget joined the WPTZ/WNNE news team in January 2011. She is the 5:30 Now anchor.
