I heard this is the best place to have Fish and chips Period.. and maybe a qualifier of in Scotland. I don't necessarily agree. But I have a hard time saying anything is the best. That being said. It is very good and it is a bit different breading that I have had while I was here. I definitely would come here again and I think you should make a visit of this spot.

To start with this was by far the best chip shop in edinburgh but overtime the standard has seriously dropped to the point i will never go back. I can get a better fried fish at my local chip shop. Last time i went my fish was presented to me with batter hanging of it all over the place obviously the batter hanging of was full of fat. I mentioned to the guy that it was not meant to be that way and that i felt the standard was dropping. From a decent or even half decent eaterie you would expect an apolligy and for them to do it again right, i was basicly abused by the guy doing the frying in a very aggressive manner. I got my money back and will not be going again. Would have recomended when they first opened but would definately stay away now

The Haddock fish had a nice crisp batter that never got soggy, even after squeezing lemon on it. The chips aren't the best, but the fish was better than any fish and chips I've had in the U.S. Though not sure if that is saying much...

This fish and chip cafe is unlike many others as it feels rather posh! The food was delicious, some of the best fish and chips I've ever had, and the service was excellent. We initially came here on an offer, which they run quite often, but it would be worth a visit any time. I think they fry their chips in animal fat, which sounds a bit yuck, but they were absolutely scrummy!

Great fish and chips BUT if you are food safe conscious having the cook rubbing his lips, his nose and his brow and NOT washing his hands after doing so would likely put you off. (We had already ordered when we observed this repeated action.)

Tailend is owned by the partner in the famous Anstruther Fish Bar in Fife. They do amazing 'posh' fish and chips too. It's not exactly white clothe napkin and silver cutlery, just really good battered haddock, chips and mushy peas. There is a restaurant area adjoining the take-away offer. The restaurant is modern/basic but clean with views into the kitchen. Note to management: please change the background elevator music! Among other things you can order pizza in the restaurant. I tried it once, but seriously don't bother. The bases are doughy and pizza toppings are bland. Stick to what you are good at - FISH! Lets put it this way, if I was to rate Tailend primarily on the pizza, it would have been 2 stars, but their fish 'n' chip suppers are the best I've tasted. Why bother with pizza when La Favorita are the masters of pizza a block down the road?! The fish are sustainable sourced which leads to a variety of specials like: sole, sea bass and rock turbot. The everyday menu includes the usual seafood, cod, haddock, calamari, hake and monkfish - all available in a light, crisp batter, breaded, or just grilled. The chips are big and chunky fried in beef dripping for crunch and a fluffy inside. Yum! Oooh I might just go and grab a chippy there tonight!

The chips here a proper crispy, that's how i like em'! A small fish supper (fish, chips, peas, bread, and butter) cost a little under £9
