A walk through the woods turned into a gold mine of harsh sun light through palms. Endless shapes, shadows and patterns.

May 25, 2012, today, each year for the past four, is fought with extreme polar opposite emotions. The opposites couldn't be further apart. I struggle to comprehend how a person can feel so much joy and relief for someone yet have the opposite, incredible pain and sorrow.

The one side witnessed a brother reach the pinnacle of heroism here on earth and meet his maker face to face within mere moments of each other. The first I'm certain, knowing my brother, was never realized. You see, he never got the fact that he was a hero. With a deep sense of commitment and honor, he only understood his job and duty, to protect his family and country. The second, well, can you imagine? That's why the pride and joy for him swell in me everyday but even more today.

Which unfortunately brings me to the polar opposite. Few, if any words are available to explain this side of the equation. Can I just leave this to your imagination also and fill in the blanks?

Sgt. David Lee Leimbach, after serving proudly in the US Marine Corp and US Army was killed in action four years ago today, May 25, 2008. The place, Bala Baluk, Afghanistan. His headstone reads, as it should, Husband - Caring - Dedicated - Brave. Four words that say so much about a man who gave it all. Help me remember him today and come Monday, remember all the hundreds of thousands who have given everything to afford you the opportunities you have today.

So sorry for your loss. We lost our cousin on May 4, 2006 in Iraq. He was only 21. A proud Marine serving his 3rd tour of duty, Sgt. Eli Parker of Camden, NY 13316. May God give peace & comfort to you and your family.
