If you want to do business in the open source world. Get some sort of business model worked out first. You'll certainly need to tweak that model as your business develops. But that's normal business life. If there are patent or copyright issues. Get that sorted before hand.
The one thing that almost certainly never stops a project being open sourced is cross platform compatibility. Improving this very aspect is one major reason to open source a project in the first place.
If your code isn't clean and tidy and presentable then frankly you've been wasting your time writing shit code. For which there is no excuse. Every time I've was in a programming lecture or lab at university the lecturers would always bang on about writing good clean tidy readable code that was well commented and documented. Every programmer knows what best practices are. There's no excuse for writing shit code.
