7. Do a Vipassana meditation retreat

How does this sound? ... Someone bangs a gong at 4:30 A.M. You mediate. For 11 hours. With 15 minute breaks. For 10 days. Oh yeah, and you can't talk the whole time.

It’s enough to make you want to start watching the Kardashians again, right? 

But I’m telling you this. This Vipassana meditation retreat is the right medicine for our times

Our minds are freaking cracked out. Entire families sit a dinner table - in public - and don’t look at each other, but look at their screens. At blips and dots. Same thing at work. We’re all Pavlov’s dogs, man. 

And it’s time to get off of that train. 

We have no idea how to stop our minds. We have no idea what it feels like to unplug. 

The Vipassana meditation retreat will teach you how. 

You won’t necessarily like the medicine when it’s going down, but you will thank the doctor later when you get your sanity back.

I will tell you in full disclose that out of the 33 things I suggest in this series, this one was the hardest for me. 

On Day Five I wanted to running out of there screaming. My legs were on fire. There was a crazy crack-addicted monkey in my brain. All was lost.

Day Seven the clouds parted and I had an uninterrupted experience of consciousness between the waking, dreaming, and deep dreamless sleep. Interesting times indeed.
