G+ Exclusive Series: 33 Ways to Reboot Your Life

13. Plan your upcoming week on Sunday at 5 P.M

Ok, ok, before your monkey mind grabs a hold with little excuses like “Those times don’t work for me!” ... Let it go.

The times don’t matter. The principle does.

And the principle is this ...

Know what you want out of life. Have a clear idea of your top 10 goals for the year that move you closer to the life you want to create for yourself.

And for each of those 10 goals for the year, have a deadline. No squishy ongoing or someday goals here. Get specific.

But the magic doesn’t just happen from getting clarity on these ten (aka, wishful thinking).

The magic happens week in and week out, by aligning your time, energy, and resources to get your closer to those 10 goals. By planning in advance the specific actions you take will move you closer to those big 10 objectives.

It helps you get laser clarity BEFORE you start your week, “I need to do more of this this week and less of that.” Or possibly, “I need to do ONLY this this week and NONE of that.”

If it’s not moving you closer to your desired life, be aggressive. Eliminate it (first choice). Delegate it (second choice). Ignore it (third choice). But don’t keep it.

The key here is to get ahead of the curve, so that you can hit the ground Monday morning. In other words, you don't get up Monday morning, "Hmmm, I wonder what this week looks like." You already know. Because you are helping create it in advance.

Yes, things will come up that you haven't planned for. But you will not be blown off your path by those things. You will be strong and steadfast in outlining what you plan to do first and foremost and doing it.

Sit down somewhere quiet and distraction-free at 5 P.M. on Sunday. Set a timer for 10 minutes. With your 10 yearly goals right in front of you, write out the TOP 5 ITEMS you need to get done that week to drive your life forward.

While you are planning, draw a horizontal line on the paper and write anything else that comes to mind that you need to do that week below that line. In other words, all the other things that you want to do but that aren't your TOP FIVE ITEMS. These are things like, “Send clothes to laundry. Send email to Jennifer about Project X. Do analysis on X, Y, Z to select the strongest performer. Etc.”

Be VERY selective about what makes into the TOP FIVE ITEMS on any given week. It should have the capability to be a huge lever to move your life forward.

Best wishes. Why not experiment with this one this coming Sunday?
