G+ Exclusive Series: 33 Ways to Reboot Your Life

8. Start a side business on the internet.

In the past, it was important for most people to learn to use computers to join the “new economy.” That was then.

Now, I believe that one of the most important skills that anyone can learn is how to make money over the internet.

What this actually involves:

• Observing and outlining problems that exist in the real world that need solving (there a lot of those, right?). Sometimes, if you already work with customers or have a list, you can simply ask, “What is your biggest obstacle to accomplishing [X]?”

• Thinking of ways you can add value to other people or organizations that can be delivered electronically or that people can they can buy digitally and then you can deliver in person.

• Creating and clearly outlining your product or service.

• Making your offer not only clear, but irresistible.

• Learning and applying the steps necessary to attract, retain, and grow paying customers for your offering.

• Apply everything you learned along the way (from yourself and others) and tweak everything about your system and offering to make it even better.

• Rinse and repeat.

That’s it.

I am not trying to oversimplify here. Building a side business on the Internet should be treated like an important endeavor - with thoughtfulness, learning, application, and improvement over time.

Just like you would approach becoming a nurse or you know ... building a business.

But most people use all kinds of excuses to not begin. But you’re not going to do that, right?

If you agree with the premise that learning to make money online is a valuable skill, then there is really no reason to wait three years to learn how, rather than starting to learn now

Three other things:

• If you're new to this, I recommend making your initial goal to be to create a viable side income before aiming to completely replace any salary you may be making working for a company. I say aim for $1,000 a month, because once you can figure that out for your marke/service/product, it is relatively easy to scale that up based on better offers, marketing, conversion, etc.

• Feel free to post your own recommendations of resources in the comments here (but only if you have personal experience with the resource in question)

• In keeping with my own advice, I ask you the question, “What do you feel is the biggest obstacle to you rebooting in your life?”
