Firefighter/EMT: City of Mineral Wells, Texas JOB TITLE:                  FIREFIGHTER/EMT (NON-EXEMPT) DEPARTMENT: FIRE/EMS FULL TIME:                  YES                    Date revised:  October 1, 2018 General Job Summary:  Under general supervision of assigned Captain or Lieutenant, responds to fire calls, fire alarms, medical emergencies, hazardous materials incidents, rescue and other calls to protect life and property.  Participates in EMS, Fire Suppression, Rescue training. Promotes Fire prevention practices. Maintains assigned station, firefighting and EMS equipment in a ready state. Essential Duties and Responsibilities:              The intent of this job description is to provide a representative summary of the major duties and responsibilities performed by incumbents of this job. Incumbents may be requested to perform job-related tasks other than those specifically presented in this description. * Respond to fire and other emergency calls; extinguish structure, wild land and auto fires; deploy and connect hoses; maintain pumping apparatus; hold nozzles and direct water streams, raise and climb ladders; ventilate burning structures; enter buildings to evacuate occupants. * Respond to Fire Alarm calls and determines appropriate action necessary. * Responsible for the safe delivery and operation of all apparatus in the Mineral Wells Fire EMS fleet, during daily activities, reroute too, leaving from, and while at emergency scenes. * Operate multiple types of fire and rescue equipment, including portable fire extinguishers, various hand tools, hand lines, positive pressure fans, generators, salvage covers, forcible entry tools, aerial ladder equipment and emergency medical equipment. * Respond to Motor Vehicle Collisions (MVC), evaluate MVCs, request necessary assistance. Ability to stabilize collisions and preform auto extrication, using hydraulic, electric, and/or pneumatic extrication tools. * Responds to various other types of incidents and/or emergencies to mitigate the hazard and/or rescue victims. * Responds to and provides emergency medical services up to and including, your level of EMS certification in varying circumstances and locations. * Work in and out-of-door environments subject to extremes of temperature, inclement weather and intermittent exposure to dust, fumes, biological and explosive hazards. * Meet minimum physical fitness requirements to work in fire suppression and EMS. * Work in confined spaces. * Inspects, cleans, restocks and maintains apparatus, equipment, quarters, and grounds. * Conducts inspections of businesses (Inspector certification required) and or pre-fire plans, occasionally conducts fire training classes and drills, and studies technical materials on equipment and apparatus operations, fire suppression and fire prevention to improve or maintain an effective level of performance. * Perform service test on fire hose, hydrants, and ground ladders. * Physically transfer medical patients from one location to another. * Completes and maintains reports, records and logs in accordance with SOPs. * Ascends and descends stairs carrying patients and equipment with the assistance of one person.  * Ensures safety of self, patient, family, co-workers and bystanders. * Obtain and preserve evidence at a fire scene. * Ability to understand and implement both written and verbal commands. * Maintains strict adherence to patient treatment as approved by Medical Director as outlined in current Medical Protocols according to level of EMS certification. * Maintains complete confidentiality of all patient information. * Seeks guidance from Captains or Lieutenants as necessary. Reports concerns and needs to Captain or Lieutenant. * Respond to hazardous materials incidents at an awareness level. * Attend and participate in training, stay abreast of new innovations in the field of firefighting, rescue, and emergency medical services. * Cleans apparatus, ambulance and equipment at fire stations; check unit for functional readiness; perform general custodial duties as required records data appropriately. * Maintain appropriate uniform and personal hygiene. * Must not presently pose a threat to the health and safety of self or others. * Maintain regular attendance and arrives at work on time and prepared to begin work. * Maintain a knowledge of City’s Personnel Rules and Regulations, departmental SOPs and Medical Directives. * Maintain general knowledge of response area in order to select the most efficient route to be taken to emergency calls. * May act in a higher capacity as Fire Lieutenant and will be expected to perform all required and related duties of their immediate supervisor. Water Plant Operator: JOB TITLE:               WATER PLANT OPERATOR                                   HILLTOP DEPARTMENT:        WATER FLSA STATUS:         NON-EXEMPT FULL TIME:               YES                                                     ON CALL:  YES JOB SUMMARY:  Under the direction of the Water Plant Supervisor, the incumbent is to perform a variety of skilled and semi-skilled technical and labor duties in the operation and maintenance of the City’s water treatment plant. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:  (This list is not exhaustive and may be supplemented as necessary). * Perform assigned treatment plant rounds inspecting, monitoring and documenting plant operations by reading plant equipment gauges, dials, graphs, and other instrumentation. * Operate and adjust treatment plant pumps, motors, valves, and other equipment to maintain appropriate plant operations; back wash filters. * Maintain appropriate flow of water through the control of gates and valves. * Maintain, compile and update plant operations logs and reports. * Perform and record mathematical calculations related to operational activities. * Mix and add treatment chemicals; ensure adequate chemical application according to regulations and guidelines. * Maintain, repair and service plant operations machinery and equipment including pumps, valves, motors, meters, tanks, and reservoirs; change lubrications. * Collect liquid samples; perform a variety of routine water quality laboratory tests; work closely with laboratory on testing processes. * Perform general plant facility maintenance such as cleaning, painting and repair plant facilities; perform a variety of grounds maintenance duties including mowing and trimming. * Responsible for the efficient and safe operations, care and appearance of assigned equipment. * Follows written and oral job instructions. * Uses good judgment to work safely and use equipment properly. * Hears clearly and interprets hand signals when working around equipment and in street and alley traffic, using proper safety precautions. * Maintain appropriate uniform appearance and personal hygiene. * Perform preventive maintenance on vehicles and equipment. * Work outdoors in temperatures of heat (100 degrees plus) and cold, freezing and inclement weather. * Stand, walk, bend, stoop, kneel and crouch for prolonged periods of time. * Exposure to noise, dust, grease, smoke, fumes, gases, and infectious materials. * Carry, hold, and lift 100 pounds.  Pull, push and drag 150 pounds. * Work overtime, holidays and weekends as required. * Applicant shall be subject to a criminal background check.
