INDUSTRIAL PRETREATMENT COORDINATOR: JOB TITLE:               INDUSTRIAL PRETREATMENT COORDINATOR DEPARTMENT:        ENVIRONMENTAL SERVICES FLSA STATUS:         NON-EXEMPT FULL TIME:               YES                ON CALL:  NO ************************************************************************************************************ JOB SUMMARY:      Under the general supervision of the Wastewater Plant Supervisor, the incumbent is responsible to supervise, assign, review and participate in the work of staff responsible for providing industrial pretreatment programs within the Public Works Department; and to perform a variety of technical task relative to assigned area of responsibility. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:  (This list is not exhaustive and may be supplemented as necessary.) *        Plan, prioritize, assign, supervise, review and participate in the work of staff responsible for providing industrial pretreatment services including inspecting City agencies, obtaining water samples, bio-monitoring, investigating complaints and other related services. *        Participate in the selection of industrial pretreatment technical staff for assigned area; provide or coordinate staff training; work with employees to correct deficiencies; implement discipline procedures. *        Recommend and assist in the implementation of goals and objectives; establish schedules and methods for providing industrial pretreatment programs; implement policies and procedures.  *        Participate in the preparation and administration of the industrial pretreatment program budget for assigned area; submit budget recommendations; monitor expenditures.  *        Promote and coordinate specific activities within an industrial pretreatment program; prepare program events and facility marketing material including news releases, flyers, and schedules of events, pamphlets and brochures. *        Organize, schedule and implement industrial pretreatment activities and other related programs. *        Assist various City departments and outside agencies in resolving environmental concerns. *        Schedule usage of water treatment facilities for activities including obtaining samples, issuing permits and enforcing pretreatment codes; provide information and assistance to users of facilities.  *        Maintain records and develop reports concerning new or ongoing programs and program effectiveness; maintain records for inspection; maintain and file departmental reports; prepare TWC, EPA, and local reports as required.  *        Monitor and inspect water treatment facilities; schedule maintenance and secure facilities. *        Monitor program compliance with laws, rules and regulations related to provision of industrial pretreatment and related services. *        Responsible for the efficient and safe operation, care and appearance of assigned equipment. *        Follows written and oral job instructions. *        Uses good judgment to work safely and use equipment properly. *        Hears clearly and interprets hand signals when working around equipment and in street and alley traffic, using proper safety precautions. *        Maintain appropriate uniform appearance and personal hygiene. *        Work in office/lab environment and outdoors in temperatures of heat (100° +) and cold, freezing and inclement weather. *        Exposure to grease, oils, electrical energy, dust, solvents, and toxic chemicals. *        Carry, hold and lift 75 pounds.  Push, pull and drag 150 pounds. *        Walk, sit or stand for prolong period of time. *        Work overtime as required. OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS: *        Monitor program compliance laws, rules and regulations related to provision of industrial pretreatment and related services. *        Educate the public and local industry on local sewage use ordinances. *        Develop survey instruments; conduct surveys of program participants to determine participant needs; interpret and record survey results; implement program changes in response to results.  *        Maintain awareness of new developments in the field of industrial pretreatment; incorporate new developments as appropriate into program.  *        Perform related duties and responsibilities as required. REQUIRED EDUCATION, DEGREES, CERTIFICATES AND/OR LICENSE: Equivalent to a Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in chemistry, biology or a related field.  Possession of an appropriate valid Texas driver's license and a good driving record.  Possession of an appropriate Wastewater Operator license issued by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS: Four years of increasingly responsible experience in industrial pretreatment, including one year of supervisory or lead responsibility. Knowledge of the basic operations, services, and activities of an industrial pretreatment program; the principles of supervision, training, and performance evaluation; principles and practices of pretreatment program development and implementations.
