Custodian: JOB TITLE:                  Custodian DEPARTMENT:           Finance FULL TIME:                 YES                                         NON-EXEMPT ************************************************************************************************************** Under direct supervision of the Building Maintenance Coordinator, employee performs routine maintenance and general housekeeping duties of City owned buildings. ========================================================================= ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:  (This list is not exhaustive and may be supplemented as necessary.) * Cleans, dusts, and polishes office furniture; cleans refrigerator, stove and other kitchen appliances to ensure cleanliness and sanitary conditions; replenishes all kitchen supplies.  Cleans restrooms to ensure sanitary conditions. * Maintains clean, sanitary restroom and replenishes all restroom supplies. * Spot cleans walls and carpets when required. * Sweeps, mops, strips, waxes and buffs various types of flooring; vacuums and shampoos carpets. * Washes windows, mirrors and walls; washes tables and chairs as required. * Prepares cleaning water and solutions in prescribed manner. * Picks up trash from all areas and disposes of in appropriate receptacle; cleans waste receptacles to ensure sanitary conditions. * May turn lights, heat, and air conditioning on and off; locks and unlocks doors and windows; secure facilities, and may be required to set alarm, where applicable. * Reports malfunctioning equipment to supervisor and oversee repairs, as assigned. * Perform routine maintenance and minor repairs. * Buffs floors as required or assigned. * Moves and arranges furniture and equipment in a safe manner. * May be required to maintain lawn and landscaping and clean building entrances. * Utilize insecticides to prevent infestation by pests. * Other related duties as required. * Some knowledge of the practices and techniques used in cleaning, custodial work and general sanitary, neat and clean maintenance of buildings. * Ability to read and understand procedures, manuals and labels on various types of cleaning products, organizational policies or regulations. * Working knowledge of equipment and supplies used for cleaning and maintenance of a building; ability to operate floor buffer. * Ability to write and maintain simple records and reports. * Some knowledge of cleaning chemicals and materials. * Ability to communicate with the general public in a professional and courteous manner. * Ability to operate vehicle when traveling to various work sites. * Ability to work varying hours, weekends, and occasional holidays. * Must have the ability to be bonded. * Background investigation required. OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS: * Ability to walk and stand for extended periods of time in day-to-day maintenance duties of maintaining building and grounds area. * Ability to climb, bend, stoop, squat, kneel, twist, push, pull and crawl in order to clean and maintain all areas of facility. * Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. when carrying mop buckets, equipment and other related facilities maintenance equipment and materials. * Ability to reach to perform housekeeping duties such as cleaning windows; ability to reach overhead in order to obtain supplies and items in cabinets or on shelves and change light bulbs. * Ability to balance objects when transporting cleaning chemicals and other related housekeeping duties. * Ability to move furniture and other objects to thoroughly clean area. * Ability to speak clearly by telephone, two-way radio and in face-to-face situations. ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS: * Majority of work is performed indoors.  Employee may be subject to chemical hazards when using cleaning products.  Work performed outdoors may be subject to inclement weather conditions. * Work may be subject to tedious work, performing multiple tasks simultaneously, working alone 50% or more of the time and working closely with others as a part of a team. * Work may be subject to dirt, dust, vibrations, heights, heat and cold. REQUIRED EDUCATION, DEGREES, CERTIFICATES AND/OR LICENSE: * Above knowledge and skill may be gained by one year of responsible housekeeping or custodial duties OR by any combination of training and experience leading to the described level of knowledge and skill. * A High School diploma or GED required. * Must have valid Texas Driver’s License, and driving record must be within guidelines set forth by the City of Mineral Wells. STARTING SALARY: $13.21/Hour. EMPLOYEE BENEFITS: Employees of the City of Mineral Wells receive City paid Hospitalization and Life Insurance with optional dependent hospitalization, dependent and employee dental and vision; Flexible Spending Accounts (FSA); TMRS Retirement Plan; ICMA RC retirement at employee's expense; Sick Leave Benefits; Certification and education pay* (up to $500 per month), 10 days’ paid vacation, 10 paid holidays, and one personal holiday.  .
