Until today I was convinced that legalizing marijuana was a reasonably good idea. I thought it might relieve some of the pressure in helping alleviate some of our society's drug-related problems. Then I heard a presentation at Rotary this morning that really opened my eyes. The presentation by a high school health counsellor was extremely disturbing. When asked what was the best web site to cover the current attempt to legalize marijuana in Vermont, she gave this site. It applies elsewhere in the US as well. The biggest threat coming is an electronic version of marijuana which is being provided now in an inhaler-like item (Like the asthma inhalers) that produces a high with no smell. Think of that in the schools where it can give THC strengths of up to 80% when current street sale percentages range only up to 25%. Scary!!!

Merry Christmas or Holiday Greetings as it applies to all my friends. May these holidays lead you into a wonderfully happy and fruitful New Year. Below is a wonderful sonnet I heard yesterday on Writers' Almanac with Garrison Keillor.

by Gary Johnson
A little girl is singing for the faithful to come ye
Joyful and triumphant, a song she loves,
And also the partridge in a pear tree
And the golden rings and the turtle doves.
In the dark streets, red lights and green and blue
Where the faithful live, some joyful, some troubled,
Enduring the cold and also the flu,
Taking the garbage out and keeping the sidewalk shoveled.
Not much triumph going on here—and yet
There is much we do not understand.
And my hopes and fears are met
In this small singer holding onto my hand.
Onward we go, faithfully, into the dark
And are there angels hovering overhead? Hark.
Alas it's no white Christmas here in Charlotte where our barn is bare, unlike this picture from last year.

Two days in board meeting for Frankos Maps in Kailua, Hawaii. Good discussions, but inside in Hawaii? Something is wrong here. At least I'll have the weekend before I fly home.

Happy Thanksgiving All!!!
A Cherry Pie, an Apple Pie and a Pumpkin Pie, Each Cooked Inside a Separate Cake, and Then All Cooked Together inside Another Cake

Neatorama - "It is a called a cherpumple, and it represents all that remains good and right in this fallen world. Pastry chef David Lowery made this 21 lb. 10 oz. concoction for guests at the Grand Geneva Resort in Wisconsin. I feel a rekindling of hope for the human race because we can still do great things like this."

and perhaps I might suggest turducken for the main course:

This was a commentary in the Bangkok Post on Thursday, Nov 17. I read it ten days after I arrived in Bangkok amidst warnings worldwide about the flooding in the Bangkok City center. We experienced no flooding where tourists visit. Think it important that we learn to look on our press with a more jaundiced eye. It seems that they would like to sell more papers/air time rather than provide responsible information.
