Fta: " But the journalistic convention of telling a story can obscure an evaluation of the numbers and types of contacts. "

I so despise that practice.

Detailed and damning
Over the last year there has been a recurrent refrain about the seeming bromance between Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin. More seriously, but relatedly, many believe Trump is an admirer and would-be emulator of Putin's increasingly autocratic and illiberal rule. But there's quite a bit more to the story. At a minimum, Trump appears to have a deep financial dependence on Russian money from persons close to Putin. And this is matc...

The Obamas are the best. Period, full stop, we're done here.

yep. too bad some people continue to deny this.
Bigotry underlies so many speeches, and echoes in the chants and cries of an audience all-to-eager to embrace sexism, racism, and homophobia.

"nobody really knows what it will lead to exactly" sounds like an attempt to justify the vote without taking responsibility for consequences that will very evidently be borne by the Other People, and as such it is an unacceptable justification.

Wow. Great points.
Last year, my previous employer threw a very thoughtful, generous appreciation dinner for our creative leadership team. The dinner was…

About those spouses (presumably mostly women) taking care of house and children: they're not doing it for free. They pay with their precious leisure time or career or leave. Dictating the spouses' schedule goes beyond travel.

the Manafort connection is a tiny part of the insanity.

"even if Trump never becomes president, his candidacy has already achieved two extremely important Russian foreign policy goals: to weaken the moral influence of the United States by undermining its reputation as a stable democracy, and to destroy its power by wrecking its relationships with its allies. Toward these ends, Trump has begun repeating arguments identical to those used on Russian state television. These range from doubts about the sovereignty of Ukraine — earlier this week, Trump’s campaign team helped alter the Republican party platform to remove support for Ukraine — to doubts about U.S. leadership of the democratic world. The United States has its own “mess” to worry about, Trump told the New York Times on Wednesday: It shouldn’t stand up for democracy abroad. In the same interview, he also cast doubt on the fundamental basis of transatlantic stability, NATO’s Article 5 guarantee: If Russia invades, he said, he’d have to think first before defending U.S. allies."
His ‘Manchurian’ ties to Russia and his lack of support for NATO are troubling.

Incredibly proud to be one of Jim's colleagues! He's worked on this for decades without achieving a conventional recognition of "success" but that didn't deter him from continuing to push on. Richly deserved.

They also quote +Jason Moore, the lead developer of PyDy (pydy.org). They don't quote +Dale Peterson, who actually started PyDy, he and I did some initial coding in 2009 when he visited me in Reno: http://ondrejcertik.blogspot.com/2009_03_01_archive.html?m=1. Time flies quickly, I remember that like yesterday. I remember we ultimately wanted to do equations for a bike, but it took too long. Then after years of hard work by Luke, Jason and many others, PyDy can now generate equations for a bike. It's very impressive.

Incredible. Big data for social science is much more important to me than big data for capitalism.
