"It's almost like U Chicago economists fucked Chicago just like they fucked America."

"WHAT?! That's bullshit. Friedman was a genius, and their department has so many Nobel Prizes."
A philosophical meditation on the politics of debt and disclosure…

Well, this was scary.
"When people start looking for whom to blame, the answer is simple: Joe-six-pack who wanted a $99 flight from New York to L.A." A veteran pilot on cost pressures in flight-crew training.

Living in Europe, I swore off virtually all low-cost carriers more than a year ago. The idea of a €20 round-trip to London is all well and good, but not only is the flight experience absolutely terrible, when I learned how low-cost carriers treat pilots (e.g. pay-to-fly, requiring pilots to pay for their own cert. renewals, etc.), my new-found inner Euro-commie took over and I said I'm done. I agree with Jeff that it'd be awesome if we had only the best of the best pilot planes, but I don't even need that much, I just want someone who knows what the hell he or she is doing, and whom the industry has vetted for "issues" (both professional and personal).

China has said "wasn't us!" even though there is a HUGE amount of evidence that says it was: http://www.fmprc.gov.cn/mfa_eng/xwfw_665399/s2510_665401/2511_665403/t1250354.shtml

1. When it comes to Ted Cruz, voters' attention will backfire.

2. If your announcement requires that your host make attendance mandatory, maybe you should hold off a bit.

3. Has anyone ever looked more like Mr. Bean?

4.  For more information, see http://www.tedcruz.com (really. It's a hoot!)
By becoming the first candidate to officially enter the presidential race, the Texas senator hopes to reclaim the attention of those in the G.O.P.’s right wing.

This is a disgrace.  It legalizes discrimination and Gov. Pence absolutely knows it and refuses to answer this question.  Atrocious.   #boycottindiana

"Study: Many hockey helmets unsafe"

Players have always known this.  It's why the helmets come off for fights.
"We don't think anybody should be playing in these [hockey] helmets," said Stefan Duma of Virginia Tech, about the lowest-performing hockey helmets.

I believe they come off because they're just too good a handhold.

I learned something today.

"As Kyle Chayka writes in a new history of the symbol at The Awl, the meaning of the “the shruggie” is always two, if not three- or four-, fold. ¯\(ツ)/¯ represents nihilism, “bemused resignation,” and “a Zen-like tool to accept the chaos of universe.” It is Sisyphus in unicode. I use it at least 10 times a day."
Every time you shrug, you don’t need to Google, then copy, then paste.

Headline is actually "Sweet 16 is packed with good teams"

Over in the Science section, the leading story is "Sun Comes Up Again Today" and the big scoop in Business this morning is "Companies Gouge Customers With Cheap Products, Poor Service"
The first weekend of the NCAA tournament is always flush with quirky memories and surprises of all shapes and sizes. Now the real hunt begins, Eamonn Brennan writes.
