Why is suicide considered a sin in Christianity, especially in light of Brittany Maynard's decision to kill herself in November of 2014? Here's my answer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=thnPpdEQMSI

Does the Church need to reform itself to affirm practicing homosexuals? Read my answer to this question here: http://www.str.org/articles/the-reformation-the-church-doesn-t-need
Alan's monthly letter for December 2014. The Church has always been under attack. From its inception, it's faced persecution from murderous dictators like Nero to worldview challenges from naturalism and Islam. Although many threats are external, some come from within.

Hi Christopher,

I’m mystified by your comment that I “missed the point.” I attended the conference that I was writing about. That they are trying to convince Christians to adopt a gay-affirming view of the Bible's verses on homosexuality is not controversial. Of course that’s what they’re trying to do. I sat in on several main sessions (and breakout sessions) where this was the main point (and is also strategically a main goal of theirs). They’re not trying to hide that.

Also, your comments don’t seem to line up with someone familiar with Stand to Reason or The Reformation Project, which was the main subject of my article. Your comments that talk about “war with others over the ability to get a divorce,” “don’t like gays?” “execution of gays,” “the bible hates them,” etc. tells me you’re not familiar with the culture of my organization. Those words don’t characterize the conversation I've been having with many people involved in this discussion.

I just wanted to clarify that. You can have the last word if you choose.

Alan

I attended a gay Christian conference. Here's the radio interview (with Greg Koukl) where I talk about it. It's during the first hour: http://www.str.org/podcasts/weekly-audio/alan-shlemon-matthew-vine-s-reformation-project-conference-november-11-2014

Are there bad reasons to adopt pro-gay theology? Yup. I write about two of them here: http://www.str.org/blog/bad-reasons-to-adopt-pro-gay-theology
If homosexuals are bullied, we need to protect them. If they're unjustly discriminated against, we need to help them. If they're treated with contempt, the person hurting them should be stopped. If a family member comes out as gay and then is belittled, harmed, or vilified, then the offending ...

Do Christians hate homosexuals? Here's my answer: http://str.typepad.com/weblog/2014/11/the-myth-of-hate.html
I’m told writing this post won’t matter. I can clarify until I’m blue in the face and nothing will change. It doesn’t matter what Christians actually think or believe about homosexuality. It seems the world will still believe what it wants to believe no matter what anyone says. But I...
