Engl Invader Doug Rappoport NAMM 2008

On this day in 1977, The Sex Pistols released their controversial song ‘God Save The Queen’ in the UK. The song peaked at number 2 in the charts behind Rod Stewart’s 'I Don't Want to Talk About It'. However, the song reached number one on the NME chart in the UK, leading many believe the British Phonographic Industry conspired to keep it off the official UK singles No.1 slot. This has never been confirmed or denied.

You may have heard the sixties band Spirit are set to take legal action against Led Zeppelin. Spirit say Stairway to Heaven was partly copied from their song Taurus. What you think to that? Aren’t nearly all songs based, at least in part, on former songs? Or, do you feel that no song should use any part of a song you created? You can listen to Taurus on youtube. One section is very similar.

Did you know, playing a musical instrument or even listening to music regularly can increase your IQ? Apparently, there is growing evidence some parts of the brain in musicians are larger and more active than the equivalent area in non-musicians. Check it out -

Fixed an annoying bug on the site today. Sometimes when adding an advert, it didn't show! Hopefully this didn't affect any of you guys but in case it did, it's fixed

Metallica have won our heavy metal poll by a mile! Results as follows:

Anthrax - 1 vote
Megadeath - 3 votes
Metallica - 33 votes
Slayer - 5 votes

I though it would be a little closer between the bands. I'm surprised Megadeath didn't get more votes.

We'll set up a new poll soon. Feel free to send in any ideas on the subject!

John Lennon's controversial remarks stating the Beatles were 'more popular than Jesus Christ' were published in The London Evening Standard on this day in 1966. Sadly these comments were heard by Mark Chapman, who would go on to shoot John Lennon.

Did you know: Listening to music while working out measurably improves physical performance.
