Story
Introduction
My name is Christopher Harley and I’m a cab driver living and working in Portland, Oregon.

I'm the social media administrator for Radio Cab Company of Portland, Oregon.
In my 12 years of cabbing, I’ve ferried close to 50,000 customers. Some of those people only made it a few feet from their departure point whereas others journeyed hundreds of miles away. Every person has a story to tell. Sometimes I just sit and listen. With others, it takes all I can muster to help them form a more coherent narrative. Either way it’s life.

The last few years of my life have been occupied with my college career. Returning to school later in life meant returning for a reason and a purpose. I’m now finishing my bachelor’s degree in marketing at Portland State University. The free time I have outside college and work is devoted to applying my marketing knowledge to the production of independent film and television.

I was looking for a specific caster wheel application and thought that I could solve my problem by going to Home Depot or even searching out the wheels online. Although I found lots of different options none provided the sort of attention I finally found at the John W. Negus Company. In my search I interacted with three different employees, each eager to help with my project and each able to lend unique perspectives on how to accomplish my goal. I feel fortunate that I can always return to a neighborhood shop so conveniently located. I'll be a repeat customer, for sure.

As a mere mixology hobbyist, it was more than reassuring when I learned that my classroom cohort was comprised of bartenders, caterers, liquor distributors, and bar managers. I knew that being amongst such a learned batch a craftspeople meant I'd catch on if only by osmosis. But I was in for so much more just as everyone else across that list that sat in rapt attention when Andrew Willett began to lecture and, better still, each held that same attention across the entire multi-segment class. Oh, the things that we will learn! The American Cocktail, a bittered sling she be, has long needed a rugged polymath to escort her back into polite society. Andrew Willett brings his exhaustive thirst for knowledge, centered under this small pool of light, chasing away the darkness and all the mystery of ingredient after ingredient, preparation after preparation, always peeling back the layers of history where wars and revolutions, trade embargoes, mutinies, privateers, pirates, navies, monarchies, moonshiners, and even border-town suffragettes have toiled in their conspiracy to help craft the perfect drink that sits balanced and harmonious waiting for you to make your own. You can't get what these classes give by just reading recipe books. You can't trust the lore of the craft if you're uncertain of the research that's been done by others, too much of it slipshod. And lastly, you'll go broke buying the wrong tools and the wrong booze, following the instructions of those that just came close but not close enough. Learn Elemental Mixology and you'll begin to unlearn what has held you back.
