7 Earth-sized planets found 40 light years away

40 light years is very close when using the universal scale. So close that if we had the technology to see life (if it exists) on one of these planets, which is orbiting the Trappist-1 star, we would be seeing them as they were only 40 years ago.

That is a far cry from other exoplanets (planets that orbit a star other then out sun) found in our galaxy some 40,000 light years away. In comparison, if a spaceship were travelling at the speed of light (386,000 miles / second), then it would reach Trappist-1 in 40 years, but if it were to go to the star system that is 40,000 light years away, get ready to pack you cots, because you will be in space for 40,000 years.
