Food: 3 Decor: 3 Service: 3 Came here on a Sunday afternoon after making reservations a few weeks earlier. 1. Fried green tomatoes, 6 ~Pretty good. Tomatoes were fried nicely, and the avocado dip complemented perfectly. 2. Southern Pan-Fried Chicken and Waffles - 16 ~Pretty good, although it was lukewarm when it was brought out. My mac and cheese had already congealed, and the mac was overcooked. I couldn't figure out what the gray cup on my plate was until I looked at the menu again and saw it was gravy, not mashed potatoes. My sweet potato with caramelized fig butter was too sweet. 3. Pastrami Hash Shredded Leek Hash Browns, Poached Eggs, Beef Pastrami, Creole Mustard Hollandaise. $12 ~Pretty good. Service was okay, but we had to wait a long time before our orders were taken.

Fantastic place. The vibe was very interesting, the food was fantastic. We got the kettle corn popcorn appetizer which was simply amazing. I also got the chicken and waffles as my entrée which was succulent and delicious. I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone visiting the DC area.

Read that this was a DC institution and a must-visit place, so we had dinner here. I had read that reservations here are highly recommended, so I did so. The atmosphere is great, the food very good, and the service was also great. They are attentive to you without being overly in your face, and also very helpful in explaining the menu choices. Try to have a meal here if you can, but be warned that it is very popular, so it will be crowded and loud. If that is not to your liking, then I suggest you do not eat here.

I'm all about farm to table and sustainability concepts so when a lunch invite from Mom popped up, I couldn't say no. I made reservations on OpenTable knowing full well how crowded this place gets during the high noon hour. For a minute, I was panicked when the host couldn't find my reservation but luckily it was all a technical error and we were seated a few minutes later upstairs. The restaurant was half-full at 11:30am and when we left, it had pretty much reached full capacity. So definitely make reservations unless you like waiting! After perusing the menu, I opted for the mushroom meunière and risotto ($17) and my mom ordered the shrimp and sundried tomato bucatini ($19). Both dishes lean on the heavier side. My risotto was good but it was oilier than I expected. There were several large mushrooms, which were cooked just fine. But I was a little surprised to see how drenched the whole dish was in oil. I had a few bites of the shrimp and sundried tomato bucatini, and it was pretty good. Shrimp was well-cooked and the bucatini was flavorful. Mom and I split the chocolate mousse bowl for two ($10). It literally comes in a mixing bowl with chocolate mousse topped with whipped cream, hazelnut crunch, and drizzled in caramel sauce. Heavy but good if you need a sweet tooth fix. Service was polite and efficient. The restaurant is LEED certified.

My parents and I came to Founding Farmers DC during our stay in the city. The food was amazing. I had the bananas foster pancakes and they were soooo amazing! The applewood smoke bacon is definitely something you should order too. Not only was the food good but the staff was very nice and the atmosphere of the restaurant was over all pleasing. If you are ever in DC head on over the Founding Farmers you won't regret it!

FF is a great choice. Fresh, quality and not overdone. They have great American comfort food items done with a touch of high end and a sustainable message. The wings were plentiful and just straight delicious. [Looked like something that would come off my grill--they looked so perfect.] It was the best mashed potatoes I have ever had, not to have been in the South and not in someone's personal kitchen. The cocktails from the fully stocked bar are done pre-Prohibition style, meaning the bartenders make all mixers from scratch. Completely adds another level of interest and taste to the drinks. They did run the courses too close together and my ribeye could have been much warmer but it was still rich and done right. Not high-end steakhouse good but worthy. Some other things to know. It is downtown DC a few blocks from the White House, so prices can get up there on some items. The wait for seating and parking can also be time-eating considerations. Their other locations may be a bit better. Can't wait to compare them. FF is worth the price and return trips are already being planned. Go eat what the hype is all about.

Saturday Night (no reservations) Short wait and seated at a shared table. Not ideal but we had great service. Our server explained the restaurant food quality and drink making process along with food suggestions. The restaurant is very loud. We started with the Skillet Cornbread. It is not your typical cornbread. It seems gooey as if not done but I assume it is the ingredients (maybe cream corn). It is served with honey and butter. The crust was very salty. Unsure if left in cleaning process or used to keep from sticking???? But noticeable. (All and all it is a new experience but not your typical Southern Skillet Cornbread) Main course: Ribeye. I had the advantage of seeing several meals being eaten. The Ribeye looked delicious. I ordered it "pink". Specifically pink. My steak came out Red. I would classify it as Rare. It didn't taste bloody. It had a very nice flavor and tender texture. Steak sauce was optional although I felt it was not needed. I paired my steak with the double whipped potatoes. WOW! They were simply amazing. Perfect! I also had the lemon glazed green beans. Now I have (& still) pick/snap/cook fresh green beans. Almost every way they can be cooked. These were undercooked. They were also not snapped or cleaned properly. Some still had the stems on them. They were comparable to raw with a glaze. Overall it was a nice meal. I would definitely prepare it differently myself, but it is always nice to have someone else cook. I didn't order desert nor was I offered the opportunity. The service was great. Our server was Dwayne. I would definitely suggest him. He check on us regularly and even boxed/bagged our leftovers. 2 people 1 appetizer 2 meals No alcohol between $60-70 before tip. Reasonably priced for food quality and area.
