Why More People Are Managing Their Security Systems from Their Smartphone.

If you have a smartphone, you probably find you use it for almost everything. According to a 2015 Pew Research study, most smartphone owners use them as their main way to interact with the online world. You most likely use your smartphone to check your email, social media, and calendar, as well as to search online, watch videos, order food, and navigate with its GPS.

With so much of our lives already on this little device, it makes sense that so many of our customers now prefer to manage their security systems from their smartphone.

Read our blog here to learn the top 3 reasons our customers keep giving for this preference:

Burglars Are Now YouTube Stars

It's not a good time to be a burglar. It is simply getting harder and harder to get by with anything. As more people are attaching affordable video surveillance cameras to their alarm systems, it's become easier to identify intruders. But there's another good reason burglars should make a career change. Victims across the country are fighting back by posting the videos of their break-ins on YouTube, exposing criminals and their illegal activities for the whole world to see.

Why We Sweat the Small Stuff

Recently this fall we called one of our customers to let her know about a simple power failure signal. Puzzled, she looked around her house for the cause of the power failure and decided to inspect her circuit breaker box. To her surprise, the circuit breaker itself had caught on fire! With quick thinking she was able to extinguish the fire before the flames could spread through her home.

She called us afterwards and thanked us. She explained that had it not been for our phone call about her A/C failure, the fire would have quickly spread. That simple call, she said, saved her home.

To find out more about why trouble signals are important too, read our blog article by clicking this link:

10 Easy Ways to Avoid False Alarms

False alarms are more than a mere annoyance. They have a large impact on how secure our homes, businesses, and communities will be. If your home sends too many false alarms, for example, your neighbors and the police may stop responding when there is an actual alarm and emergency. Police departments that spend too much of their time responding to false alarms may decide to charge fines, or in some cases, could refuse to respond.

A large majority of false alarms are caused by simple human error, which is good, because it means we all have the opportunity to prevent false alarms by learning the most common mistakes that cause them.

Where is Your Panic Button?

Would you be able to quickly press your panic button if you needed to? Is it in a place where you can easily reach it? Often times, as the loose component to the alarm system, the panic button can get misplaced. Someone in your family may have thrown it in a junk drawer, not really sure what it is for. Or, you may have hidden it in the back of your closet, wanting to keep it out of the way of the kids. The panic button is the often ignored part of your alarm system because you only look for it when you need it. However, if you wait until you need it . . . it'll be too late. Take the time to think ahead about where to place your panic buttons.
