2018 Annual Meeting (North America) - registration now open!

The Access 4 Learning Community is delighted to confirm the dates of our 2018 Annual Meeting in Washington, DC.

Recognizing the restrictions for both conference attendance and travel for LEAs and SEAs, we are thrilled to be coordinating our conference dates with CoSN - by extending your stay by as little as one extra night you can attend both conferences!

The A4L Community conference is ideal for anyone interested or working in the pk-20 educational field and provides an opportunity for professional development & networking as well as an opportunity to participate in leading discussions around data usage & management areas that affect your work.

Come join local, state, federal, and government decision makers to find out how your peers are focusing on data to impact learning. Suitable for data managers and technical staff alike, this event will showcase real-world examples of how LEAs and SEAs are overcoming challenges facing the education sector (including data privacy, student record exchange…). There will also be a range of informative sessions on data usage, standards and management, technical overviews and real-world examples from various state and local agencies of how the SIF standard is being used to effectively impact learning.

The A4L Community has done extensive work over the past 18 months to develop a list of elements for individual students IEP, and to assist Washington State in the development of IEP in xPress Student Record Exchange (SRE) as part of their ‘on the ground’ implementation. We are delighted that the IEP work has been recognized by the CEDS Community as an area of particular development interest.

A4L Community Formalizes Its Common Education Data Standards Technical Support

Washington, DC, 22 February 2017---The Access 4 Learning (A4L) Community’s North American Management Board of Directors has approved the new Data Model SIF Specification Development Process. A major change in this policy and procedures draft is the formal acknowledgement reiterating A4L’s now three-year commitment to support and parallel development to NCES’s Common Education Data Standards (CEDS).

“The A4L Community has been a major contributor to the CEDS initiative since its inception including providing original data model framework, technical support and community engagement” states Peter Tamayo, OSPI Assistant Superintendent/CIO at State of Washington. “Since 2011 the Management Board has directed the Community to align the SIF Implementation Specification development with CEDS maturation. This draft officially acknowledges this aligned development and is now a formal part of our policies and procedures for schools, states, and marketplace providers.”
