“I like the Yugsolavs,” Bill told the gentlemen of the press … “Mussolini tried to frighten them, Hitler tried to frighten to them. And Stalin, in his turn, tried to do the same. They all failed. Now it’s up to Liverpool Football Club”.

My review of 'Red or Dead', David Peace's novel about Bill Shankly has been published by The Tomkins Times.

Have a read and let me know what you think:

" Liverpool were like fittingly ‘mad’ contenders in the wacky races. An odd charabanc of a vehicle, pulling crazy manoeuvres to jump ahead of more-expensively assembled opponents.

By the end of the season run-in we looked more and more like a smoothly-oiled Monster Truck, ploughing over eleven opponents in a row. The problem was the lack of spare parts..."

'Fessing up at the Festival

My latest New Start magazine blog is online.

"The ‘Sharing sh*t practice’ session at the Re:Fest UK Festival of Regeneration is an open invitation to discuss another taboo by-product of our humanity – our regeneration failures, mistakes and misjudgements."

"The reason I am doing it in Liverpool is simple - there is more talent in Huyton than there is in Hoxton. London is musically dead and Liverpool is still alive."

Regeneration for Scotland's future.

How can we create “the emerald green age of cities” in Scotland? What can Scottish towns and cities learn from pioneers like Freiburg in Germany?

Key points and reflections from the first #regenwebinars:
