What a tragic story of a man and his best friend. Breed discrimination is immoral and unethical, and the groups who employ it and advocate for it empower landlords and others to do the same.

San Antonio, Texas, is taking notes from Austin and aiming towards becoming a No Kill City. From the San Antonio Mayor: "Just 75 miles up the road, they've accomplished that and they're to be congratulated; but there's no reason San Antonio can't do the same thing and we will.”
The donation is the largest single contribution in ACS' 60-year history, said Joe Angelo, Animal Care Services interim director. The council also approved contracts between ACS and the San Antoni...

This is extremely important for anyone who wants to fully understand the mechanisms for saving lives at animal shelters.  Spay/neuter is an ingredient.  It is not the whole cake.
It has become as predictable as the sun rising in the East that whenever I post anything relating to animals on my Facebook page, several people will invariably respond by writing “People should spay and neuter their pets!” Spay/neuter has become the catch phrase of the animal protection ...

Saving virtually all companion animals entering US shelters is not just a dream.  It could happen today.  No Kill is a choice, and it is a result of the implementation of proven programs and policies.  What are they?  Check out the No Kill Equation, a list of proven programs and policies that (1) dramatically and rapidly increase live outcomes; and (2) responsibly decrease shelter intake over time.

Georgetown, Texas, becomes the fifth open-admission shelter in Texas to achieve "No Kill" status for saving over 90% of all impounded pets in 2011. Great job, Georgetown Animal Shelter!

Very sad. One American city's animal-sheltering policy: If you see a stray dog, either shoot it or abandon it.
