Give Me Shelter
Isaiah 58:6-12, Hebrews 13:1-3, Matthew 25:31-46 Oh, a storm is threat'ning My very life today If I don't get some shelter Oh yeah, I'm gonna fade away. So begins “ Gimme Shelter ” by the Rolling Stones – a classic Vietnam era song that reminded us that war...

A Call to Worship (Ps 91:1-2; Matthew 23:37) Whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty.      I will say of the Lord, “God is my refuge and my fortress,       my Lord, in whom I trust.” Let us worship the One who ...

There Will Be Blood
Psalm 23        Revelation 7:9-17 We are now on our third week in a sermon series on the lectionary readings from the Book of Revelation. We began with the idea that Jesus is God’s self revelation, and this book is a particular expression of hope for a part...

Revelation, the End
Psalm 118:14-29        Revelation 1:1-8 Today is the day that the church breathes a collective sigh after the rigor of Lent and the hospitality of Easter. The lilies are still with us, but they beg to be taken by anyone who will have them. The extra family ...

Motivation
Isaiah 43:16-21      Philippians 3:4b-14      John 12:1-8 Today is an exciting day in the life of our congregation, as we give thanks to God for the life of Al Pheiffur (and his twin brother Elmer). Al has become what a friend of mine once told me that he a...

Mind. Blown.
Isaiah 55:1-9       Psalm 63:1-8       Luke 13:1-9 Mind Blown [poof] – that’s what we sometimes say when we hear or see something that changes the way we understand the world around us. Marketing companies like to use this phrase to tell you that they have ...

Prayer of Confession – Homelessness
Gracious and lovely God, forgive us for calling you “Lord” while refusing your rule. As a nation, we have allowed homelessness to become a demographic of people, and we have used it as a designation for people that we find hard to look in the eye. Help us t...

Living the Dream
Psalm 148:1-14       1 Corinthians 13:8-13        Revelation 13:1-10, 14:1-5 Well, that just got weird. Hearing these bizarre and fantastic visions it is hard to imagine them as real, and yet it seems equally as hard for some of us to try to understand them...

Worthy
Psalm 30        Revelation 5:11-14 As we move from Easter to Pentecost – the celebration of the unleashing of God’s Holy Spirit into the world through the church – we are working our way through the book of the Revelation of John. Last week we talked about ...

Why the Resurrection of Jesus Matters
Isaiah 65:17-25 Acts 10:34-43 Luke 24:1-12 “Why do you look for the living among the dead?” he said. “He is not here. He is risen.” Out of all of the liturgically correct responses we hold dear in the church, I have to say that “He is risen indeed!” is one ...

Love Is Never Wasted
Joshua 5:9-12      Psalm 32       Corinthians 5:16-21       Luke 15:1-3, 11b-32 “Is love ever wasted?” That question was asked in a discussion about this week’s texts on the Pulpit Fiction podcast. It was asked in relation to the parable of the prodigal son...

What are You Getting for Lent?
Genesis 15:1-12, 17-18        Philippians 3:17-4:1        Luke 13:31-35 So, what are you getting for Lent? That’s kind of a weird question, isn’t it? Normally we think of giving something up for Lent. You might even think of that as a Roman Catholic thing t...

Have fun!
Introduction
I'm a Christian, a husband, a dad, and a Pastor. I think deeply. I love fully. I seek to have fun whatever I may be doing.

Though I am originally from Kennesaw, GA, I've wandered through Richmond and Chester VA and stopped for a spell in Dalton, GA and also Savannah, GA before settling in Lafayette, LA. I am married to an amazing woman who is better than I deserve and we have two kids that teach me about the important stuff in life.

We love the Ballet Studio! The instruction is of exceptional quality. Great care is taken to develop multi faceted dancers with ballet as the core. The enviornment is beautiful, clean, and safe, and the community of families is welcoming. This is not the place to come and impress others. It is a place to learn, to grow, and to reach your potential. If none of this were true, I'd still be won over by one thing. When I asked my daughter out of the blue to name someone she admires after school the other day she said, "Mrs. Beverly." Nuff said.
