A good, worrisome piece on this incident. I like that the writer also mentioned "Container Bob," another strange and unsettling mystery.
On July 13, 2010, a cargo container arrived in Genoa, Italy. It had torrents of radiation coming out of it. No one knew what was inside, and no one knew what to do next.

Good piece. Worth reading for a sanity check before you go insane obsessing over micromanaging Windows to squeeze out a few more FPS.

If your computer's getting a bit old, you're probably trying to eke every bit of gaming performance you can out of it. I spent all day benchmarking to answer the age-old question: Can you do it without expensive hardware upgrades?

(Answer: Sorta maybe.)

Guess I am on something of a Wire kick. Pixel portraits of characters from The Wire (plus David Simon there at the end).

The Firefox 8 add-on updating process you encounter while upgrading from FF7 is incredibly unpleasant. Who designed this? I'm about a dozen browser-restarts in and only halfway done.

Some issues trigger a deeper response than others within communities. In the technology world, the education, opportunities and inclusion of women holds unusual resonance. In the U.S., as Nick K......

This is mostly funny in that it reminds me a great deal of some of the papers I read (and wrote) in college. On the plus site, it has Ravage and Laserbeak to look at and remember fondly. Also a Diaclone ad.

A tragic, tragic loss of a great inspiration. A coworker of mine suggests Jobs deserves a state funeral. Something, certainly, ought to be done to mark the passing of a man who was for many the world's greatest product designer and marketer, who dramatically reimagined the relationship between buyer and product.

Of course, Jobs was much more than peerless pitchman and product visionary. His biggest impact on me was the kind of thinking that led to obsessions over chamfers and bezels, and to such gems as "Real artists ship."
Long before the MacBook and the iPad, the Apple co-founder and former CEO dreamed that computers could be used to help unleash human creativity. He spent much of his life bringing that dream to fruit...
