Start 2015 off fresh with these green cleaning and organizing tips!

Below are a few tips to spruce up your apartment for the new year.

1) Go through cabinets, closets, and desks to find and recycle all unneeded paper products.
2) Feeling the burden of an overstuffed closet? Give your old clothes a second life; donate any unused clothing to Goodwill!
3) Recycle your electronic products. Most electronics stores will take your old or broken products and recycle them. Avoid tossing those in the trash!
4) Use eco-friendly cleaning supplies. Most stores carry a great selection of environmentally friendly cleaning products, pick some up on your next shopping trip. Or, better yet - make your own! Simple household items like baking soda and vinegar can be used for any number of jobs.
5) Freshen up! Simmering water, citrus peel, and fresh mint or basil will lighten up the air in your apartment without any added toxins from synthetic air-fresheners (and it will save you money as well!). Make sure you never leave your stove unattended.

Why wait until spring, when cleaning can be this simple? Keeping it green will help your apartment stay healthy and toxin free. What are your favorite go-to green cleaning or organizing tips? Comment below to share your ideas!

#July is a month to celebrate with family and friends!
Some of the best summer celebrations involve barbecues or cookouts. Click below for a few safety tips for your next get together.

1. Whether you use a charcoal or gas barbecue always make sure to follow proper safety precautions when lighting, cooking, and storing the barbecue.  Follow factory guidelines when using lighter fluid or propane tanks, clean your grill regularly to prevent grease fires, and store your grill away from anything that is flammable or hazardous.
2. You should know the proper cooking temperatures and preparation for the food you are serving at your get together (especially meat). The last thing you want to do is make your friends or family sick.
3. Make sure to have plenty of drinking water on hand so your guests can stay well hydrated.
4. Provide shade or a covered area where your guests can get out of the sun and cool off.
5. If you will be serving alcoholic beverages at your get together, please enjoy responsibly and make sure your guests do so as well.
6. If you will be lighting off #fireworks at your get together make sure you use extreme caution when handling, lighting, and disposing of the fireworks.  Keep water or a fire extinguisher nearby, never point the fireworks toward anyone else, and always stand a safe distance from the devices.  Make sure you know local laws and regulations regarding pyrotechnics and fireworks.

How to Decorate Small Spaces for the Holidays

It’s the time of year to bring out holiday decorations and get in the festive spirit. No matter what size space; a little creativity can go a long way in transforming any room in your home. Here are some tips to help you get started!

1. Holiday Cards - if you’re receiving holiday greeting cards from friends and family you can use them as wall decorations next to other holiday-themed decorations
2. Half Trees - if your space does not support an entire tree you can utilize a half or even quarter tree (for corners) to save space
3. “Gingerbread” Houses - use graham crackers to to create a mini “gingerbread” house
4. Windows - make use of your window space by creating beautiful snowflakes with a glue gun
5. Serving Tray - if you’re hosting guests, consider a tiered serving tray (stacked vertically) to save table space

Summer is almost over!

Time for one last vacation before the warm weather ends? Click below for tips to keep your home safe while you enjoy your vacation.

1. Let the landlord or office manager know you will be out of town. They can hold any mail or packages that come for you, and more importantly watch for any suspicious activity around your home.
2. You can arrange to have a trusted friend or neighbor watch your home while you are out of town. Make sure to give your landlord or office manager the name of the person you have watching your home so they do not report this person as a trespasser.
3. Unplug electronics that are not absolutely necessary while you are away. Most electronics still use power if you leave them plugged in. Examples of things to unplug include: TVs, video game systems, lamps, computers, and small kitchen appliances.
4. Clean your home before you leave. Remove any perishable foods from the refrigerator, take out the garbage, and sweep or vacuum.  Why ruin your vacation by having to clean when you return home?
5. Lastly, if you are not taking your car on a long road trip, make sure to remove all valuables and park it in a safe place.

Comment below with any of your own suggestions or ideas on keeping your home safe this summer.

Summer is here!

Click below for tips to help you have a happy and healthy summer!

1. Do you want to save energy, money, and keep your home cool this summer? Remember to keep windows and blinds closed during the hotter hours of the day, turn off any unnecessary lights or appliances when not in use, and use ceiling or window fans at night to cool your home

2. During summer we all like to open up windows and let the fresh air flow through our homes. Unfortunately, many people forget you should always close and lock your windows when leaving home whether it is just for the day or for a long summer vacation.

3. There is nothing worse than getting into your car when it has been sitting in the sun all day. Park your car in a shaded or covered parking spot. Over time this can also help save the paint job and interior of your car.

4 Get outdoors to enjoy your favorite sport or hobby, stay hydrated, and regularly apply sunscreen. These simple things can go a long way to keeping you happy and healthy this summer

Spring is here and summer is near. That means amazing weather, bbq’s and a new opportunity to grow some flowers or vegetables. You do not need a huge garden to achieve this. In fact window gardening is becoming very popular for apartment renters. Here are some tips and tricks to get you off on the right foot with window gardening this spring.

* Select plants that will grow well in your environment. Take into account average temperature and how much sunlight your window gets. Some ideas to get you started include basil, peppers and green onions.
* Add high quality potting mix to your pots.
* Sow your seeds about ½ an inch apart.
* Water your plants based on their needs. Some plants need more water than others.

Please comment below with a list of what you are growing on your window sill this spring!

If I were able to give 0 stars I would. When I first moved in they claimed it was a nice community based location. I live in a one bedroom apartment and where I am located there are constantly police cars right on the other section of the wall. When I brought this to the Rental Manager Brenda, she literally laughed me out of the office. Recently I have seen security driving through the neighborhood a sign that other tenants must have agreed. They are also very slow at fixing almost anything in the apartment because of the "price". As a tenant I don't care what the price is, I expect things to be fixed as I pay for the dwelling. Recently I came in and asking about my lease and all I received were vague answers. Come to find out when I look at the copy of my lease agreement literally half the page is missing! (not the paper itself but the text). Very Shady Villas at Whitney Ranch.

THANK THE WORLD MY LEASE IS ALMOST OVER!!!! This place is a nightmare! They give you a low rate to move in for the first year, but then jack up prices a few hundred dollars once the year is up, and refuse to renew any rates.I have lived here almost a year now, my lease is up in June. While living here These are the issues I have had... 1st- the counter tops had green stains in them, which seem to get worse once you set things on them, or cook upon them. 2ed- Every appliance I have had has broken, and they will not replace any of them, they will do a TEMP fix to get you by. The washer and dryer- washer was making awful noise due to being off its track, dryer was missing a panal inside and lint would not flow out correctly, causing all my clothing to get giant balls of lint in them. STILL NOT FIXED RIGHT! Dishwasher- pieces were coming apart inside, all the trays wheels were broken and bent. Dishes started to come out slimy. STILL NOT FIXED! Microwave had no handle on the outside, they glued one on. Oven has dark charcoal inside, they never cleaned. some of the blinds were longer then others,in places, I noticed that they sewed the blinds back on instead of fixing them. Every other day they turn our water off to "work" on the pipes and water heaters. Every time you go to flush a toilet, turn the water on, do laundry, dishes, or take a shower, after they turn the water off the water runs black for about 5 min gets in your clothing, and dishes- DISGUSTING!! The staff is rude and fake! The maintenance crew is even worse. I live in a top floor back apartment and the maintenance crew is always standing around smoking right under it. Teen on top of it the maintenance crew came into my appt several times without my permission- They contacted the office and told them my cat chewed up all the blinds. I got a threatening call from the office, when I went to look for the blinds that had been "chewed" I found one little tinny crack in a blind- There is no way a cat could have done this. My garage door has alos been broken several times, and they always say this will fix it, but I have had to manually get out and open it and close it to put my car in there. Also this is supposed to be a gated community... the gates are always broken and jammed every single week. MY gate cards have also stopped working 3 or 4 times, Where you always have to go in and have them re-program it. Also have spider and cob webs upstairs by the front door, and my neighbors door they refuse to come and spray. Then just today it was raining and hailing. My roof near the window in my master bedroom caved in and was leaking all over the place. When I called them they sent maintance up to fix it. I was told that is was a roofing prob and they could not do anything about it for at least a week. That they have to call the roofing company to fix the outside, before they can even look at the inside. Maintenance then left and just let the water leak all over the place.

This place is not bad but not good either. I have lived here for about 7 months now and really haven't had any major problems. The neighborhood is safe which is nice. The apt. that I live in is comfortable, not that big but easily livable. Would I recommend it as a place to live? Sure, its cheap, safe, and clean. Its no ritz carlton but you're not paying for that.

Old appliances and its like pulling teeth to get someone to fix them. they usually end just blowing it off IF they show up at all.
